Behind the Scenes with Brian Geraghty: Discovering the True Harrison Ford on the Set of ‘Bigger Than Life’ (Exclusive)
Geraghty remarked how Helen Mirren, 79, “made it so effortless for us” to overcome the apprehension of filming alongside the celebrated actors.
Mirren, who portrays matriarch Cara Dutton, recently shared with PEOPLE how her fellow cast members behave around Ford, 82.
“Harrison is such a lad. He’s what we in England refer to as a lad. He’s a male, and due to this, all the other lads genuinely adore him, and rightly so,” Mirren expressed in February.
“He’s consistently so kind to all the other performers,” Mirren continued. “And so we all sit in the frigid weather on set, on amusing, quirky, slightly uncomfortable chairs, and the other fellows just congregate around Harrison because they want to be in his presence.”
Inquiring if he’s at ease asking Ford about his previous roles, Geraghty mentioned it relies on the context.
“If it’s a sincere question — if we’re having a pleasant time and feel we can chat,” he states. “But I do feel that approaching anyone about their legendary roles can be frustrating; I even get annoyed if someone recognizes me from something I did a decade ago. I’m attempting to pursue other opportunities.”
Geraghty elaborates: “It’s like you’re truly trying to escape that and engage in other projects that are equally significant. You get what I mean? As an actor, you start questioning, is that my identity? So I tend to avoid all those memorable roles and try never to broach that topic with them, instead discussing matters that hold relevance, as I believe acting is fundamentally based on trust. Once you begin delving into those areas, it feels intrusive, which can be somewhat uncomfortable, yet we had a solid connection.”
“I was fortunate because nearly 80% of my time was spent with him, and he always brings laughter to the set,” Geraghty concludes regarding his experiences alongside Ford.
