Val Kilmer’s Family Declares ‘So Proud of Him’ in Heartfelt Plea for Privacy During Grief

Kilmer was last seen in public alongside eldest child Mercedes, 33, attending Hollywood’s annual Thespians Go Hollywood Gala at Avalon Hollywood’s November 2019 event in Los Angeles.
The actor from Tombstone walked the crimson carpet with his actress daughter, playing familial co-stars years later in his 2020 crime drama Paydirt.
Beyond Mercedes, the cinematic legend co-parents 28-year-old musician Jack Kilmer with former spouse Joanne Whalley, their marriage spanning from the late 80s to mid-90s.
Celebrated for iconic roles including the Caped Crusader in 1995’s Batman Forever and Iceman in Top Gun, Kilmer’s farewell performance materialized in 2022’s blockbuster sequel Top Gun: Maverick, marking his final cinematic collaboration with Tom Cruise after 36 years.
The 62-year-old Cruise opened his CinemaCon 2025 presentation in Nevada by commemorating his late co-star, preceding discussions about Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.
“Before we dive into today’s agenda, let’s celebrate my cherished friend Val,” Cruise announced, eliciting enthusiastic cheers. “Words fail to capture my admiration for both his artistry and character – having him participate in both Top Gun installments remains an extraordinary privilege.”
Appealing to attendees’ shared cinematic passion, he continued: “Let’s collectively pause to reflect on Val’s remarkable contributions through his craft. Movies meant everything to him, just as he’s meant everything to cinema lovers worldwide.”
Following a reverent silence, the action star concluded: “Our gratitude goes with you, Val. May your new voyage be magnificent. This remembrance truly honors his spirit.”
