“Unconventional Living Arrangement: Drew Barrymore Shares Shocking Relationship Experience”

Drew Barrymore Recalls Boyfriend’s Attempt to Share Home with Mother

Drew Barrymore disclosed that one of her former partners attempted to have his mother move in with them.

On the latest episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the host, joined by Valerie Bertinelli and Ross Mathews, discussed a PEOPLE article about a woman who canceled her wedding upon discovering that her partner had bought a house with his mother without her knowledge.

“The news has spread rapidly, with many emphasizing the importance of having a spouse, not a landlord plus a resident mom,” Bertinelli, 64, remarked during the show.

Mathews, 45, humorously commented, “If you decide to cohabit with him and his mother, just watch out for that invisible umbilical cord, okay? It’s still there.”

Barrymore, 50, then shared a personal anecdote, stating that a similar scenario had occurred to her in the past, even though she wasn’t engaged at the time.

“I moved in with one of my initial partners, thrilled at the prospect. We found this adorable little residence in Los Feliz, California. I thought, ‘I’ll be a trendy individual with my live-in partner. Oh my goodness, I’m Mary Tyler Moore!'” recounted the Charlie’s Angels star.

“We moved in, and he drops the bomb, ‘Oh, by the way, my mother is coming to live with us.’ And I was like… ‘Okay, interesting. For how long?’ He responded, ‘Possibly forever, indefinitely. She will reside with us’,” Barrymore reminisced. “I literally said, ‘I must leave. I must depart.’ Are you serious? Your mother? Have I even met her?’ He answered, ‘No.’ I said, ‘I’m out. I’m out.'”

Barrymore, who has been married thrice and has two daughters, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10, with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, openly discusses her dating experiences on her talk show, which has been confirmed for a sixth season.

In a previous episode on March 24, she mentioned being ghosted by a man after their first date. “I messaged him, ‘Great to see you the other night.’ We exchanged a couple of messages, and then he signed off with, ‘Haaaaa.’ And then nothing,” shared the 50 First Dates actress.

“I would never do that. It never even crosses my mind to act that way. If you cast a line, why wouldn’t you follow through?” expressed Barrymore, adding, “It happens to the best of us – decent individuals who wouldn’t treat others in such a manner.”
