Ice Cube Says He’s ‘Staying Clear’ of Cyclone Alfred While at Hotel in Australia: ‘I’m Right Here on the Beach’

Stay safe, Ice Cube.
Cyclone Alfred is currently ramping up in Australia, where the 55-year-old rapper and actor is currently staying in a beachfront hotel — in the midst of unsafe weather conditions.
“I’m staying clear of it. It’s pretty cool, you know? I haven’t been through a cyclone before,” said Ice Cube in an interview on The Project. “I can check this off my bucket list, for sure.”
The N.W.A alum jokingly added, “You know, I’m right here on the beach. The beach looks like it is going to be in the lobby in a minute.”
According to Reuters, residents in areas prone to flooding have been urged to evacuate by Australian authorities as the cyclone heads toward Brisbane. Storm warnings have also been issued over more than 300 miles in Queensland and New South Wales.
Cyclone Alfred could result in 96 mph winds later this week, the outlet reported, and it’s then “expected to land as a category-two storm” near Brisbane. Rainfall could result in a total of more than 31 inches, per Reuters, and flash flooding could potentially become life-threatening.
“This is a very rare event for south-east Queensland,” said Queensland Premier David Crisafulli, according to the publication, noting that it’s “been many decades” since a cyclone last occurred in the area and encouraging residents to follow evacuation orders.
Ice Cube is scheduled to perform two Australian shows at the ICC Sydney Theatre in Sydney on March 7 and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on March 9.
Elsewhere in his The Project interview, the Barbershop star shut down speculation he’s currently in Australia to film the Anaconda reboot, which is currently in production in the area. He notably starred in the original 1997 film.
“I never saw them. I was just out doing some sightseeing and hanging out before my Sydney show,” said Ice Cube. “I haven’t seen Jack Black or Paul Rudd around here. I don’t know what you are talking about.”
Last week, actor Selton Mello shared a photo of himself with Black and Rudd to Instagram and announced they’d reached “the end of the filming” of Anaconda, describing the production as “an unforgettable experience.”
