Tragic Loss: Rising Travel Influencer Passes Away at 28 Following Battle with Liver Damage and Pneumonia
Travel influencer Vanessa Konopka tragically passed away at the age of 28, just months after being diagnosed with severe liver damage and pneumonia.
The German content creator frequently shared her experiences with her boyfriend, Fernando, who initiated a GoFundMe campaign for her when she fell ill in the Philippines on December 31, 2024. On March 7, he updated their shared Facebook page to announce the heart-wrenching news of her passing.
“She always loved connecting with you all, and her love for the Philippines was beyond words,” Fernando reflected on his late girlfriend. He further expressed his feelings directly to her, stating, “If you are perhaps reading this somewhere, thank you so much for teaching me how to love myself, regardless of what others think.”
He concluded with a heartfelt message, “She showed me how to love myself and how to pursue my dreams! I will forever love you and we may meet again.”
In the fundraiser page set up earlier this year, Fernando explained that Konopka’s liver damage and pneumonia had “rendered her extremely weak.” During her hospital stay, she struggled to eat, walk, or communicate effectively. He aimed to raise over $227,000 to secure a medical air ambulance back to Germany, as a standard flight posed significant risks to her health.
Despite her health challenges, Konopka managed to update her followers on social media while hospitalized on the Filipino island of Boracay. On January 21, she shared her experiences, referring to it as “the hardest journey of my life.”
Fernando kept their Facebook community informed and had shared some positive updates in the weeks leading up to her passing. On February 20, he conveyed that Konopka was “out of danger now” and had reunited with her mother. They were planning to bring her back to Germany for further treatment once she regained her strength, which was expected in a “few more days.”
