Tom Brady Says He’s Currently ‘Very Happy’ with Work and His Time at Home: ‘Life’s Pretty Full’ (Exclusive)

Tom Brady has no complaints these days.

As the former quarterback, 47, settles into his new gig as an NFL broadcaster at Fox Sports, Brady exclusively tells PEOPLE he’s “very happy” with the new chapter of his life.

“For me, it was good to take some time off,” he says of his time between retiring from the NFL — for a second time in February 2023 — and making his debut in the broadcast booth earlier this month. “I had been on this treadmill going at a fast speed for a long time, and I loved it. I loved every minute of playing, and at the same time, when I retired, I really enjoyed that too.”

“Now, I’m back to work and I’m enjoying that, so I have no complaints,” Brady continues. “Just like everybody else, I try to wake up and try to do my best for the people that matter the most to me. And when you commit to the people like I have in my broadcasting at Fox, I want to do a great job for them and my teammates there. So my life’s pretty full. I’m very happy.”

And although he isn’t suiting up for the football field any more, Brady says his schedule is still packed between work and being a father to his three children. The former NFL star shares son John “Jack” Edward Thomas with his ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan, and two children — Benjamin Rein and Vivian Lake — with his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen 

“I do have a pretty full-time job now at broadcasting and still being a parent, and it’s a lot for all of us. We have our work life that we hopefully all enjoy, and then we get to go home and then we’ve got to put time in there,” says Brady. “I’m doing what I love doing, which is hanging out with my family and my kids, and obviously fulfilling my responsibilities at work.”

Brady’s debut on Fox earned mixed reviews, but the seven-time Super Bowl champ says it’s been “really fun” to transition into his new role. “We’re working on it. We’re going to keep working,” he says.

In addition to his new full-time job, Brady is lending his time to supporting causes that are important to him. On Thursday, Sept. 26, he announced his partnership with global healthcare leader, Abbott, to launch “The We Give Blood Drive” in partnership with the Big Ten Conference.

“I’ve been giving blood since I was in high school and I heard about this recent blood shortage in the U.S. and figured out ways that we can create awareness around it,’ Brady tells PEOPLE, adding that he loved the idea from Abbott and Big Ten to make the blood drive a “competition.”

The winning school will be announced at the Big Ten Championship Game on Dec. 7, and will receive a $1 million donation to advance student and community health. 

“It gives all these students at the schools an opportunity to do their part and give back where you can,” Brady explains. “We have opportunities every day to give back in different ways. It could be our time, our energy in this case, making a blood donation can save a lot of lives. I think that’s a very important thing”

“Sometimes [competition] is not so friendly with Big Ten schools, and I’m sure Ohio State will finish dead last, but maybe they can surprise me,” Brady teases.
