The Shocking Precursor: Why Harvey Weinstein Received a Lifetime Ban from Vanity Fair’s Oscars Bash

Harvey Weinstein was indefinitely prohibited from the Vanity Fair Oscars gathering well before his scandals.

In Graydon Carter’s recent autobiography When the Going Was Good, which has just been released, the publication’s past editor-in-chief noted that Weinstein, 73, was the sole individual permanently banned from the gathering for life after he “frequently appeared with more companions than his invitation specified and would intimidate the staff.”

Carter recounted that when he initially addressed the former producer, he warned that he would exclude Weinstein permanently if he continued to act disrespectfully towards his personnel.

“It was both the right thing to do and a reckless move, as he was undeniably the dominant producer in Hollywood during that period and he could instruct the stars in his films to keep their distance from us on Oscar night,” Carter stated.

Elsewhere in the memoir, Carter mentioned enforcing a lifetime ban on Weinstein from all Vanity Fair events after he “lashed out at” Sara Marks, who was the main organizer of the party.

In a discussion with Page Six made public on March 23, Carter elaborated on the new book and Weinstein’s prohibition from the events. “He got banned from everything because he was disrespectful to the staff and I did not approve of that,” Carter shared.

Subsequently, Weinstein was expelled from the entertainment sector entirely and is presently serving a prison term for his 2022 convictions related to sexual offenses in California. He was found guilty of rape and sexual assault in New York in 2020, but those convictions were annulled in April 2024.

Weinstein’s attorney Imran H. Ansari conveyed to reporters in December 2024 that Weinstein is being “thoroughly mistreated” during his time at Riker’s Island jail. The former film producer was identified with chronic myeloid leukemia in the autumn of 2024.
