SZA Dodges Close Call on Stage During Thrilling Tour Kickoff with Kendrick Lamar

SZA certainly knows how to captivate her audience!

The 35-year-old singer nearly fell during the opening night of her Grand National Tour, co-headlined with Kendrick Lamar, on Saturday, April 19, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

In a video, SZA can be seen attempting choreography with one of her dancers while performing “Diamond Boy (DTM)” from her upcoming 2024 album, Lana. As she lifted her leg to drape it over the dancer’s thigh, the dancer stumbled, almost dropping her.

With quick reflexes, SZA leaned into the dance move, wrapping her arm around the dancer’s shoulders. Fortunately, the “Kill Bill” hitmaker managed to step forward and regain her balance before hitting the stage. She swiftly recovered and continued dancing as if nothing had happened.

Although SZA hasn’t mentioned the near-accident on social media, she did post a clip from the Minneapolis concert on Instagram with the caption, “It feels illegal to be this close to SZA.”

The Grammy winner tagged fitness coach Taylor Petty and added, “Shoutout to my trainer these cameras a lil close 😭.”

SZA and Lamar’s tour is set to visit cities like Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Detroit. They will also have international dates that include Germany, Spain, and Italy, among others.

The Not Beauty founder gave a sneak peek of her tour with Lamar during a March appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. She mentioned that the concerts would be quite different from the rapper’s performance at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.

“Oh, we’re doing a new thing,” SZA said enthusiastically. “We’re doing a fun thing. We’re both just kind of throwing all the paint at the wall. This is our first stadium show for both of us, so we pretty much have to go insane.”

The two artists officially announced their tour in December 2024. They’ve also recently collaborated on the songs “Gloria” and “Luther” featured on Lamar’s 2024 LP, GNX.
