Stephen Baldwin Reveals the Powerful One-Word Secret Behind His Enduring Marriage to Kennya
Stephen Baldwin has revealed the key to his enduring relationship.
During a visit to the Steel City Con in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 5, the actor discussed his married life with his spouse, Kennya Baldwin. The pair have been united in matrimony for nearly 35 years, having wed on June 10, 1990, crediting their strong bond to faith and forgiveness.
“It’s truly my faith that has united us, along with her faith, and everything associated with that,” Stephen shared during a Q&A session led by Michael “Zombo” Devine.

“Individuals often inquire about my secret before they enter marriage: ‘What’s the key?’ ” he continued. “I respond, ‘What’s the one word you must remember to maintain a marriage for 35 years?’ And they might say, ‘Love.’ Incorrect. ‘Commitment.’ Also incorrect. ‘Cherish.’ No. ‘Honor.’ Still wrong. I say, ‘Forgiveness.’ That is the most crucial concept to keep in mind about your partner.”
Stephen — who was raised in the Catholic faith but humorously noted he strayed from the religion due to being “such a terrible sinner, it simply didn’t suit him” — mentioned that he discovered his one-word insight of forgiveness during his “born again experience.”
The couple, both just 19 years old, first crossed paths on a bus in New York City in 1987. Stephen described their encounter as a “super blessing” to the audience.

On January 23, 1993, approximately three years after their wedding, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Alaia Baldwin. Hailey Baldwin — who adopted the surname Bieber upon marrying singer Justin Bieber — completed their family when she arrived on November 22, 1996. Both sisters have pursued careers in modeling.
In a conversation with Elle in 2021, Hailey, age 28, shared her thoughts on her parents’ marriage and its impact on her own romantic life.
“I understand that at times they annoy each other, but their love is palpable,” she reflected. “When I was younger, hearing their story about how they met felt like the most romantic tale ever. It made me dream of experiencing something similar. I do believe it motivated me to desire to marry at a young age.”
