Shailene Woodley and Zachary Quinto Strike a Chord in First Look at Cult of Love on Broadway (Exclusive)
Shailene Woodley is making her Broadway debut alongside her former Snowden costar Zachary Quinto and an ensemble of stars in the Second Stage Theater’s production of the new play Cult of Love, and PEOPLE has an exclusive First Look at the cast in action.
The drama, now in previews at the Helen Hayes Theater in New York City ahead of an official opening on Dec. 12, comes from writer Leslye Headland and director Trip Cullman (Choir Boy, Significant Other). It tells the story of four adult siblings returning to their childhood home for the holiday season, and the drama that ensues between them.
“It’s the holiday season for the Dahl family!” an official synopsis for the play reads. “The Dahl traditions include singing carols in harmony at the drop of a hat, but the gathering is anything but harmonious. Old conflicts resurface, new issues battled, and dinner is taking absolutely forever to be served. Will the love the Dahls have for each other be enough to get them through, or will this be their last Christmas together?”
Woodley isn’t the only actor making her debut on the boards in the production, either. Among the cast is Euphoria‘s Barbie Ferreira, GLOW‘s Christopher Lowell, Younger‘s Molly Bernard, Star Wars: The Acolyte‘s Rebecca Henderson and musician Christopher Sears — all of whom are new to Broadway.
Joining them are theatrical veterans Mare Winningham, David Rasche and Roberta Colindrez. Those veterans, including Quinto, have been helping guide the newbies, Ferreira, 27, tells PEOPLE.
“We have so many amazing actors in this cast who have done Broadway before, and I’ve been really absorbing so much from them about this process,” she says, at a press call for the play in November.
“Being on Broadway is something I always dreamed off,” Ferreira continues. “I did theater as a kid. I went to the Boys and Girls Club and that’s how I started acting. I was 7-year-old, I walked into the auditorium and I saw the stage and we started doing our own little plays that we would write and all sorts of things. So it’s something I always wanted to do, and I expect it to happen this year but it’s really incredible to be able to do it at this capacity. A new skill set is being born out of it.”
