Sebastian Maniscalco Jokes About the ‘Humbling’ Moment His Son ‘Fell Asleep’ at His Show (Exclusive)

Sebastian Maniscalco is great at getting his son to sleep. He just has to bring him to one of his shows!

The stand-up comedian, 51, exclusively opened up to PEOPLE about balancing his roles as parent and performer. Maniscalco, who’s currently on his It Ain’t Right comedy tour, is dad to daughter Serafina Simone, 7, and son Caruso Jack, 5, whom he shares with wife Lana Gomez.

Maniscalco says his kids like his sets… most of the time.

“They really enjoy coming to my shows. Although my son just fell asleep at the last show he was at,” the comedian, who also starred in movies The Irishman and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, tells PEOPLE. “So that was pretty humbling.”

He adds, “It’s always nice when you look into the audience, your son is knocked out.”

In addition to catching some z’s, one thing Maniscalco’s mini-me will be doing is dressing to the nines.

On Dec. 1, the comedian posted a snap of himself and Caruso decked out in fresh suits.

“Back in my day, my parents wouldn’t let us leave the house unless we were dressed like we were heading to the Vatican for a private mass,” the comic wrote on Instagram. “Nowadays, I see kids in pajamas at weddings! Trying to keep the tradition alive with my son here—because dressing for the occasion? That’s not just style, it’s respect. (Who we kidding……it’s all Lana).”

Proud mom Gomez, 41, commented on the post, “My sweeties. Luckiest mama and wife.”

Maniscalco’s career as a comedian started in The Comedy Store in West Hollywood, and later led him to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He’s been a headliner on many comedy tours and specials, including What’s Wrong with People? (2012), Why Would You Do That? (2016), Stay Hungry (2019) and Is It Me? (2022).

His busy career is full of travel and frequently takes him far from home, he says, which adds an interesting layer to parenting.

“Being on the road trying to parent through FaceTime has been something that’s been a challenge for me,” he tells PEOPLE. “But they’re great kids. They understand what Daddy does.”

He tied the knot with Gomez in 2013, and the pair celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary over the summer.

“I am on the road a lot, so it definitely adds a newness that every time I come back,” he added of the impact of touring on his marriage, noting that when he comes home, they’re “really happy to see each other.”

“Listen, 44 hours, seven days a week. I’m not knocking that,” he continues, before quipping, “But after a while you look at the other person and go, ‘Are you going to leave the house soon?’ “
