Sarah Jessica Parker Opens Up on the Challenges of Motherhood and Debunks Misconceptions About Her Twin Daughters

Sarah Jessica Parker dismisses the notion that raising twin teenage daughters is as challenging as some may claim.

The actress appeared on Jenna and Friends on Monday, April 21, where she reflectively discussed her experience watching her twin daughters grow. Parker, 60, expressed to Jenna Bush Hager and Justin Sylvester that she believes twin girls often face undue criticism.

Parker and her husband, Matthew Broderick, are parents to three children: twin daughters Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell, both 15, and their older son, James Wilkie, who is 22.

“I feel like there’s a sort of unfair perception regarding teenage twin girls,” Parker shared.

Bush Hager, herself a twin, quickly added, “Absolutely!”

Parker responded, “I find mine really likable.”

While Sylvester reminded everyone to “knock on wood,” Bush Hager agreed with Parker’s sentiment, adding, “We weren’t always likable ourselves.”

“And I will admit that’s true,” Parker acknowledged. “However, I genuinely enjoy their company. They are so fascinating.”

“I’m sure your parents experienced similar feelings,” Parker continued, referring to Bush Hager’s parents, former U.S. President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush, who also raised twins. “It feels like you’re constantly part of a control study—one of this type and one of that.”

“They attend the same school and share their reactions. I could tell the school, ‘This serves as a proper control study. Their feelings can narrate the story of the larger group,’ ” joked the star of And Just Like That.

“They truly are intriguing individuals, and generally speaking, they are kind and curious.”

In a previous interview, Parker revealed that her twins have “distinct interests.”

“They are deeply devoted to each other, yet they’ll also mention, ‘I need some time away from her,’ ” Parker explained. “Tabitha can entertain herself for hours, while Loretta frequently needs to check in.”

On June 23, 2024, Parker shared a heartfelt Instagram photo to commemorate her daughters’ fifteenth birthday, featuring a cluster of pink balloons.

“Two divine 15 year olds. We are incredibly fortunate and we love you so much. Happy birthday to our dearest Loretta and Tabitha,” Parker wrote in her caption. “Celebrating both of you today brought me pure joy. X, Mama.”
