Robert Pattinson Jokes He’ll Be Playing ‘Old Batman’ in the Superhero Sequel After Years of Delays

Robert Pattinson isn’t getting any younger.

The actor, 38, joked in a recent interview with Hero Magazine that he will be playing “old Batman” in the anticipated sequel to The Batman following years of delays.

When asked if he’s going to return to the superhero role soon, Pattinson, who made his debut as the masked crusader in Matt Reeves’ 2022 flick The Batman, said, “I f—ing hope so. I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f—ing old Batman by the sequel.”

His Mickey 17 costar Naomi Ackie, also participating in the interview, replied, “You’re literally what, 35?” to which the Twilight alum said, “I’m 38, I’m old.”

Pattinson, doing press for his upcoming science fiction comedy Mickey 17, told Variety in February that the superhero sequel will begin production at the end of the year.   

“I think at the end of the year?” he said before teasing the storyline. “And I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone, but it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting.”

In addition to Mickey 17 and the Batman sequel, the actor is set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s star-studded Odyssey adaptation, set to hit the big screen in 2026. The movie will also star Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE last month, Pattinson opened up about the unique thing he does while preparing for his film roles. “I do a lot of wandering around kind of practicing stuff rather than practicing new characters, which annoys everyone around me,” he shared.

He added that it’s not uncommon for those closest to him to ask questions like, “Why do you speak like a taxi driver in a German accent?”
