Renée Elise Goldsberry Shares How She Celebrated Her 22nd Wedding Anniversary (Exclusive)
Johnson attended the opening to support his wife, and Goldsberry tells PEOPLE it would be the first time he had an opportunity to see the Broadway show, which — according to an official synopsis — features “a series of hilarious stories about dating, heartbreak, marriage and that sort of thing,” adapted from the short stories of Simon Rich. It stars a rotating cast of performers including Goldsberry, John Mulaney, Fred Armisen, Chloe Fineman and Richard Kind.
Goldsberry says that being part of the show has reminded her of just how lucky she is to have her husband and family. “I feel most grateful that no matter how beautiful the story about love that I get to tell [in the play], it always makes me even more grateful for what I have at home,” she explains.
Earlier this month, the Girls5eva star shared a post on Instagram to celebrate her latest anniversary with Johnson. Alongside two sentimental photos of the couple on their wedding day, as well as a few snapshots of them with their kids, she wrote a message reflecting on her journey with her attorney husband.
“22 years of marriage to my best friend and my greatest inspiration. Alexis, I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you…Look what God has done with us! Look at our children; so big and still so close to us!” she wrote in the Dec. 9 post.
“The greatest love story ever told is ours,” she continued. “Praying that forever truly means forever… 💍🤵🏾♂️👰🏾♀️ #anniversary #blacklove.”
Back in 2016, Goldsberry opened up to PEOPLE about her parenthood experience with Johnson and her hopes for their kids’ futures.
“My greatest wish for my children is that they fulfill their purpose,” the Hamilton star said at the time. “I know that all children, and in particular mine, are here for a reason.”
Goldsberry also spoke about the challenges of juggling her busy career — which has spanned theater, film and TV roles — with raising Benjamin and Brielle.
“I wish, mainly, that I could have a job and work all the time and also not have to leave my kids,” she said of balancing it all. “If there was a way to clone myself, and be at every parent-teacher meeting and be there to put my kids to bed every single night, and also star on Broadway, that’s what I would do.”
All In: Comedy About Love is currently running at the Hudson Theatre in New York City.
