Suspect in Lady Gaga Concert Bombing Plot Wanted to Kill a Child There: Police

  • Lady Gaga set a record on Saturday, May 3, by drawing the largest recorded crowd ever by a female artist
  • Brazilian intelligence officials foiled an alleged plan to carry out a bombing at her Rio de Janeiro concert
  • Police charged three people, including a teenager, in connection with the alleged plot

Authorities in Brazil have charged a third person in connection with the alleged bombing plot at Lady Gaga’s concert in Rio De Janeiro over the weekend.

The person, who is not named, was charged with terrorism offenses in connection with the alleged plan that aimed to target the LGBTQ+ community at the Saturday, May 3 concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian police said, according to CNN.

Hours before the free concert, which drew the largest ever audience for a female artist, police arrested a man and a teenager in connection with the alleged bomb threat. The man was charged with illegal weapons possession and the teen is facing charges relating to child sex abuse material, police said at the time, per CNN-News 18.

Lady Gaga’s team told The Hollywood Reporter that they were not aware of any security concerns prior to the show.

The ensuing investigation revealed the third suspect allegedly had plans to sacrifice a child or a baby during the concert in a bid to complete a “satanist ritual,” Brazilian police said, according to CNN.

The man allegedly told police his plan was an attempt to “respond in the same way” to Lady Gaga, who he claimed is a satanist.

Lady Gaga performs at Copacabana Beach on May 3, 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Bloody Mary singer has never publicly expressed interest in satanism, and has been vocal about her belief in Christianity. Her most recent Coachella performance drew unfounded commentary likening it to Satanist rituals. Earlier this year, she appeared on Saturday Night Live to poke fun at rumors that she has an interest in Satanism.

The alleged plot was allegedly orchestrated by members who were planning to “recruit” people to carry out explosions at the concert, Brazil police said, according to the BBC.
