Prince William and Prince Harry ‘Enjoyed’ This Christmas Dessert ‘the Most’ When They Were Kids

The word “tradition” is synonymous with a royal family Christmas — and brothers Prince William and Prince Harry enjoyed a particular dessert tied to the holiday when they were boys.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s former chef Carolyn Robb told Town & Country that, when it came to William and Harry, the meringues from her cookbook Christmas at the Palace “are probably the thing they’d have enjoyed the most.”

“When Prince William and Prince Harry were young, we’d do Christmas baking and that,” she added.

Robb was once head chef at Kensington Palace, where the family once lived. “Christmas is the time of year when everybody can get in the kitchen and cook as a family,” she said. “I always think it’s really good fun to do that with children.”

“You can be really creative — there are so many different things you can do,” she added. “It’s really just to give people a bit of inspiration. And I hope it’ll appeal to all ages, as well.”

Robb’s snowflake meringue recipe made its way into her cookbook, which Country Living shared online, writing, “These darling edible decorations are delicious on their own but can easily be used to dress up any dessert table, festive cake or other wintry treats.”

Now that both William and Harry have kids of their own, baking is moving into the younger generation. William’s three kids with Kate Middleton — Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — baked Platinum Jubilee cupcakes to celebrate their great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s historic 70 years on the throne in 2022, and Queen Elizabeth once gave Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Prince Archie a waffle maker for Christmas, so he’s clearly got experience in the kitchen, too!

On a 2021 episode of The Late Late Show, Harry told host James Corden, “My grandmother asked us what Archie wanted for Christmas, and Meg said a waffle maker. She sent us a waffle maker for Archie. So breakfast now, Meg makes up a beautiful organic mix in the waffle maker.”

Harry added that Archie “loves” the waffle maker (Princess Lilibet was born that same year, so she was likely too young to participate): “Archie wakes up in the morning and goes, ‘Waffle,’ ” Harry told Corden on the show.
