Pete Davidson Reveals Why His First ‘Major’ Fashion Purchase Is a ‘Reminder of How Stupid I Was’

Pete Davidson had to hustle to keep up with his wardrobe when he first stepped into the spotlight.

In a Dec. 12 interview with W Magazine, the Saturday Night Live alum, 31, recalled having to work more so he could “pay off” the $875 Gucci shoes he bought at 19 with the nearly $1K compensation he earned from working on an MTV show.

“I didn’t know about taxes or paying your team or anything,” he told the outlet. 

Davidson’s spending tendencies aren’t the only thing that’s matured. On his style evolution, he told W Magazine: “If you Google any picture of me from ages 20 to 27, it’s purple shirts, fedoras, all these chains, and f—ing dumb Rolexes. It doesn’t look cool at all. But I’m very fortunate that I’m 31 now. Looking back. I’m lucky that I finally woke up.” 

His newfound take on fashion is what led him to his latest gig as Doublesoul’s new creative director. 

The Bodies Bodies Bodies star is taking the reins at the sock brand that previously collaborated with models Ella Emhoff and Alex Consani. 

“I’ve always dressed a little different and people seem to like it. I’m definitely open to doing more stuff, but I like to be behind the scenes. I’m not a big fan of celebs pushing stuff on people. It’s a big turnoff. To be behind any brand, you have to be super delicate and precise. If you put it out in the wrong way, it crushes it,” he said on what drew him to the role. 

Over the years, Davidson has become synonymous with his streetwear-inspired ensembles. He’s also attended the Met Gala three years in a row (although he told GQ that he thought his first invite was a “joke”). 

For his debut at fashion’s biggest night in September 2021, he wore a Thom Browne suit featuring a calf-length skirt. In May 2022, he attended alongside his then-girlfriend Kim Kardashian, who notoriously wore Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday Mr. President” gown. The following May, Davidson, decked out in his signature bucket hat and shades, attended solo again, but had a friendly run-in with Kardashian inside the party nearly one year after the pair’s split in August 2022.
