“Pedro Pascal Reveals How ‘Fierce Protectiveness’ Connects Him to *The Last of Us* Character”

Pedro Pascal acknowledges a clear similarity between his real-life persona and his role in HBO’s The Last of Us.
The 49-year-old star, portraying a resolute guardian figure to Ellie (Bella Ramsey, 21) in a dystopian landscape, revealed his personal connection to Joel’s defensive instincts during a cast press event.
“I’m quite intensely protective,” Pascal stated before the April 13 Season 2 debut. “That instinct extends to those I care about deeply. It’s undoubtedly the trait I identify with most.”
Reflecting on filming a narrative mirroring modern anxieties, he added: “Creating art about societal collapse feels particularly resonant now.”
“Storytelling has always served as emotional release,” Pascal observed. “From ancient cave paintings to our Max streaming premiere on April 13th, it’s humanity’s way of documenting existence.”

The actor elaborated: “My entire worldview formed through consumed media – literature, films, shows. These narratives inevitably mirror our collective reality.”
“There’s complex satisfaction in witnessing fictional crises. It lets us safely explore societal tensions and personal struggles through allegorical lenses.”
Anticipated to adapt The Last of Us Part II game, Season 2 will feature returning actors and newcomers like Catherine O’Hara.
The Last of Us returns April 13 on HBO, with Season 1 currently streaming on Max.
