Nicholas Hoult Reveals the NSFW Nickname Clint Eastwood Gave Him While Filming Juror #2
It turns out Clint Eastwood really enjoyed Nicholas Hoult’s performance in The Great.
When Hoult, 35, appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers‘ Thursday, Dec. 19 episode to promote his movie Nosferatu, the actor told host Seth Meyers that Eastwood, 94, granted him a humorous NSFW nickname on the set of Juror #2 in reference to Hoult’s satirical Hulu series.
“Oh, it was magic,” Hoult said of working with the legendary Eastwood on Juror #2, Eastwood’s latest movie as a director. “I mean, he is cinema in many ways. The performances he’s given, the movies he’s directed and made. It was a trip. He’s a like a jazz musician of a director; he’s very musical in life as a person, but the way he creates, there’s kind of this flow and relaxed nature to it.”
The actor also noted that Eastwood holds “a wicked sense of humor.” “I learned this because his nickname he gave me was Captain Lingus,” he told Meyers, 50. “Cunnilingus.”
“Because he had seen a show I did called The Great and my character in that is meant to be very good — he calls it his ‘tongue trick,'” Hoult added. “And Clint really liked the show, so when I would walk on to set he would salute me in the mornings and say, ‘Cap’n Lingus.’ And that memory will forever live with me, and I’d like you all to refer to me as that from now on.”
Hoult costarred in The Great with Elle Fanning. The series served as a satirical, loosely based retelling of the young life of 18th century Russian empress Catherine the Great. Hoult portrayed Catherine’s husband, Emperor Peter III, throughout its three seasons.
“I just love that in that story, Clint Eastwood has a Hulu login,” Meyers joked during his conversation with Hoult. “It’s just really funny to think of him being like ‘ah, I gotta get on Hulu.’ “
Hoult praised Eastwood’s versatility as a filmmaker when he spoke with PEOPLE in November, noting that the Hollywood legend and jazz musician has “done the score for many of his movies, so his movies have their own rhythm and pace to them because of his musicality.”
“He’s just an incredibly talented and kind man,” Hoult said of Eastwood at that time. “I felt very fortunate to spend time with him and work with him. He’s very funny. He’s got a sharp wit, a dry sense of humor, and so that was also great because we would laugh a lot.”
Juror #2 is streaming on Max now.
