Michelle Rodriguez Unleashes Her Bold Spirit: “I Refuse to Be Controlled” (Exclusive)

Michelle Rodriguez Celebrates Induction into Texas Film Awards Hall of Fame
Michelle Rodriguez is all about powerful energy.
The performer, aged 46, who was born and raised in San Antonio, was celebrated as one of the inductees into the Texas Film Awards Hall of Fame in Austin on March 6. This occasion honors those in Hollywood who have acknowledged or contributed to the Lone Star state during their professional journey.
On the red carpet prior to the ceremony, where Rodriguez’s Fast and the Furious co-star Vin Diesel and Machete director Robert Rodriguez eventually honored her with the accolade, the actress shared with PEOPLE that she is inclined towards infusing rebellious spirit into her life.
“Ultimately, at the conclusion of the day, it resembles a salmon navigating upstream, and Hollywood constantly appears to be that current,” Rodriguez stated, emphasizing that she strives to surround herself with individuals who are not “imposing their beliefs and expectations on you.”
“You don’t wish to be bullied or allow anyone to suggest that you can’t reach the other side of the river. I’m determined to get there by any means necessary. I am indifferent to the direction everyone else is headed,” she asserted. “That’s the rebellion. All it entails is remaining true to who you are.”
According to Rodriguez, there are specific individuals in her life from whom she seeks inspiration.
“I believe you encounter these dominant personalities, and I consider Robert [Rodriguez] to be one of those figures, Vin [Diesel] as well, and Jim [James Cameron]. And myself,” she elucidated.
When queried about the projects she would be keen to pursue in the forthcoming future, while continuing to embrace her “rebellious energy,” Rodriguez disclosed to PEOPLE, “You know what fascinates me? I am genuinely enjoying the work those gentlemen are doing with The White Lotus.”
Emphasizing themes found within the HBO series, such as “psychology” and “humanity,” the actress added, “I would be eager to collaborate with anyone rebelling in that direction.”
At the gathering, Rodriguez received accolades alongside other 2025 Texas Film Awards Hall of Fame inductees, including Alamo Drafthouse founders Tim and Karrie League, along with screenwriter and director Noah Hawley.
Jay Duplass, Zazie Beetz, Elijah Wood, and Dazed and Confused director Richard Linklater were also present as presenters.
When Diesel, 57, honored Rodriguez with her award, he referred to her as a “ride or die” companion and remarked, “I am incredibly fortunate to have her in my life, whether she allows my 14-year-old son to DM her in Dungeons and Dragons or my 9-year-old son to demonstrate one-arm push-ups. I will cherish her eternally.”
