Meet the Plath Family! All About Welcome to Plathville Stars Kim, Barry and Their Children
TLC’s Welcome to Plathville launched the Plath family into the spotlight.
The reality show premiered in 2019, and the family’s complicated dynamics piqued the viewers’ interest. Kim and Barry Plath welcomed 10 kids: Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia and Mercy. Kim and Barry’s son Joshua died in 2008 following a farm accident, an emotional topic the family has discussed on their show.
Since the beginning, Welcome to Plathville has given a glimpse of the family’s lifestyle, including their Christian Fundamentalist beliefs. Although each member has had their own experiences with the church, the family has shared a love of music and strong bonds with one another.
Most recently, the matriarch and patriarch embarked on separate journeys after announcing their split and subsequent divorce in June 2024 after 24 years of marriage. Kim and Barry aren’t the only ones undergoing significant changes in their lives — their son Ethan and his former wife, Olivia, also went their separate ways.
In the midst are the younger Plath family members, who are still trying to figure out who they are and what they want. As the TLC show airs its latest season on Tuesday nights, here’s a complete guide to the Plath family tree.
Kim Plath
Kim is the matriarch of the Plath family, and she was married to Barry for over two decades. Their relationship’s downfall, including the public announcement of their split in the summer of 2022, is a prominent storyline in Welcome to Plathville.
“Divorce has been hard,” Kim shared on the show at the time. “For 25 years, Barry handled all of the logistics of the household: the budget, the income, making sure all the bills got paid. And I did basically the parenting.”
Kim also worked at a dance studio, which was periodically shown on Welcome to Plathville. Although this caused a bit of a stir in her relationship with Barry, he eventually purchased the studio for her.
“That was a way for me to show that I value her, that I esteem her, that I want her to succeed. And, you know, she did thank me for that, but it didn’t turn her heart back to me,” he said, referencing their split. “It’s given her a place to escape. There’s an emptiness. A shift has occurred. Her presence is absence, so I feel it.”
Since their divorce, Kim has moved on with Ken Palmer, whom she met at her son Isaac’s flying lessons. During a 2023 episode of the show, the couple made things official and shared a kiss.
Barry Plath
When Welcome to Plathville started, Barry worked to maintain the large family farm and kept up his career as a transportation planner. He and Kim also maintained rental properties together.
Throughout the series, the Plath patriarch appears as the quieter parent, though he doesn’t hold back when he shares how difficult the divorce has been for him.
Barry revealed it’s the toughest experience he has been through, but he has focused on continuing to have strong relationships with his children amid the family changes.
In particular, his daughter Moriah considered him a safe space during a vulnerable time in her life.
“I realized he was one of the few people that was there for me no matter what and didn’t judge me,” she said in a 2023 episode of Welcome to Plathville.
Ethan Plath
Kim and Barry welcomed Ethan, the eldest of the Plath family, in 1998.
He lived with his family in Cairo, Ga., until he moved to Florida and then Minnesota, as the complicated dynamic between himself, his then-wife Olivia and his family became increasingly difficult.
The former couple, who married in 2018, were often at odds with his parents and siblings. At one point, Ethan and Olivia had a close relationship with his sister Moriah and brother Micah, but it diminished over time. Ethan’s bond with Kim and Barry was also tested, to his dismay.
“This whole thing is definitely extremely frustrating,” he said in a 2023 episode. “I feel like I’m caught in the middle between Olivia and my family, and I’m just so tired of all the nonsense. I almost can’t stand it.”
The couple separated in 2023, and Olivia stated on an episode of Welcome to Plathville the following year that she would not get back together with Ethan. They officially filed for divorce in April 2024, per reports.
Olivia Plath
Ethan and Olivia tied the knot in 2018 when they were 20 years old.
The reality star and her in-laws had a complicated relationship over the years, which caused serious strain in her marriage. Olivia hadn’t spoken to Kim in years but tried to make progress leading up to the couple’s divorce — even exchanging hellos was a “huge” deal for Kim and Olivia.
Though Ethan and Olivia tried to improve their relationship, the pair officially called it quits in 2023.
Olivia works as a traveling photographer and is starting to date for the first time since the separation, but she has shared how difficult the process has been.
In a 2024 episode of Welcome to Plathville, Ethan attempted to slow their divorce proceedings, causing Olivia to double down.
“I’ve moved on, I’m done, and I feel like Ethan’s indecision confirms my decision because the inconsistency that he’s showing in what he says he wants, what he does, how he changes his mind, that played a huge role in our marriage of so many inconsistencies,” she explained.
Olivia continued, “Feeling loved and then not feeling loved and feeling supported and not feeling supported, and it was just like a roller coaster.”
Hosanna Noble
Kim and Barry welcomed Hosanna, the family’s eldest daughter, in 1999.
She has rarely appeared on the show, choosing to stay out of the spotlight, but has said her mom started giving her music lessons at age 5.
Hosanna later attended the Stamps-Baxter School of Music in Tennessee and toured with the family band.
Now, she lives a quiet life with her husband, Timothy Noble, in Ohio, where they perform music together.
The couple met in 2016 at the National Quartet Convention and married three years later. Hosanna and Timothy share three kids: Jeremiah, Joshua and Eliana.
According to their website, they sell CDs, perform concerts and can be booked for various events.
Micah Plath
Kim and Barry welcomed their son Micah in 2001.
He has lived in Los Angeles and Florida and worked for a period of time as a model with Select Model Management.
Welcome to Plathville has highlighted his vastly different lifestyle from the rest of his family members, but also how he has maintained strong relationships with them.
Micah’s focus on health and fitness has allowed for a different connection with his father.
“Micah and I have entered, like, a new phase of our relationship where we’re bonding as, like, bros in the gym,” Barry said in a 2023 episode of their show. “I’m here to pump him up. He’s here to pump me up.”
The second eldest Plath son joined a group of his siblings and his girlfriend, Veronica, on a family vacation in September 2023. “Labor Day vacation with family,” Micah captioned a series of photos on the social media platform.
That same year, he appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. More recently, in September 2024, Micah posted with Veronica again, calling her his “better half.” She also started appearing on Welcome to Plathville in season 6.
Moriah Plath
Kim and Barry welcomed their daughter Moriah in 2002.
Their second eldest daughter was once known as the rebel child of the Plath family. As Moriah grew up, she became closer to Ethan and Olivia, even moving with them to Florida. During this time, she started dating Max Kallschmidt.
Moriah’s split from Max was a major storyline on the show after he admitted to her brother Micah that he had cheated on her. The incident unfolded at a party for his friend, and though he showed remorse in the clip, the breakup was final.
Like other members of the Plath family, Moriah is musically talented. She previously posted videos of herself singing on Instagram and she released a single called “Circus” in 2023. Moriah also made an album inspired by a breakup, which was featured prominently in Welcome to Plathville season 6.
In 2024, Moriah honored her parents on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
“There really is nothing like a mothers love!” she wrote about Kim in a since-deleted Instagram post.
A few weeks later, Moriah honored her dad, Barry, writing, “I wish I could somehow say how much he means to me. I talk to him every day, sometimes I bug him while he’s working and often times ask wayyy too many random questions and he always takes the time to be there for me and all his kids! We all love you Dad! You are the best!”
Lydia Plath
Kim and Barry welcomed their daughter Lydia in 2004.
She has lived her life the closest to her family’s religious beliefs, being involved in her church and going on mission trips. Lydia is tight-knit with her family, especially her younger sisters, whom she enjoys making videos with.
In 2023, Lydia went on a road trip and visited more than two dozen states.
“A flashback to last summer’s traveling. What an adventure it all was,” she captioned a video on Instagram. “I traveled through 31 states last year and I believe that’ll be my record year for a while! Each place was so beautiful in its own way.”
Lydia is currently dating Zac Wyse. She hard launched their relationship on Instagram in November 2024. “Words can’t describe how grateful I am the Lord has brought you into my life!” the reality star wrote alongside several photos of the couple.
Isaac, Amber, Cassia and Mercy Plath
Kim and Barry welcomed their youngest son, Isaac, in 2005, and Amber followed four years later. Cassia was born in 2011, and Mercy completed the family in 2013.
The four youngest Plath kids are often seen only in the background of Welcome to Plathville.
During an episode of the series, Kim sat down with the youngest Plath girls and explained her separation from Barry. Amber took time to ask her mother about the situation, asking if Kim should be the one to move out instead of her father.
In 2023, Lydia posted a video on Instagram singing with her sisters.
“5 years ago I was singing this song with my older sisters. And now here I am singing the same song the same way with my younger sisters,” she wrote. “They picked it up so well and did so good! Although they heard it a thousand times growing up, so maybe that helped!”
The following year, Isaac completed his flight training and his sisters posted on Instagram in celebration of his achievement. “It’s been his dream since day 1 to be a pilot and we’ve all watched him work so hard to come this far,” they penned in a now-deleted post. “We’re so proud of excited for him.”
