Martin Short Gets Inducted into SNL’s Five-Timers Club with Help from Star-Studded Group of Friends: Watch
Martin Short has made Saturday Night Live history!
During the Dec. 21 episode of the late-night comedy sketch series, the actor, 74, was inducted into the Five-Timers Club — an elusive group of celebrities that have hosted SNL at least 5 times.
During the show’s opening, Short was celebrated by fellow five-timers club members, including Tom Hanks, Paul Rudd, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Kristen Wiig, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, John Mulaney and Jimmy Fallon.
After each star celebrated Short — and cracked various jokes — Fallon, 50, appeared and presented the Only Murders in the Building star with a token to celebrate his latest achievement.
“I’d like to present to you the official five-timers club jacket, in exactly your size, a women’s small,” the late-night host teased.
Elsewhere during the show, Short took part in various sketches, including one in which he played a man who gets into a parking lot altercation and another where he portrays an airport employee reporting on travelers during the week of Christmas.
One other sketch saw him star as a drama teacher who critiques A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Hozier, meanwhile, served as the evening’s musical guest, returning to the Studio 8H stage for the first time in over a decade. The musician last appeared on SNL in October 2014.
He first performed “Too Sweet” from his EP Unheard, before later returning to sing “Fairytale of New York.”
SNL announced the cast for its milestone 50th season earlier this year.
Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline have been added to the sketch comedy show’s roster, while Punkie Johnson, Chloe Troast and Molly Kearney have all stepped away. Returning cast members Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker, meanwhile, were promoted to the main cast after two years each as featured players.
Michael Che, Colin Jost, James Austin Johnson, Bowen Yang, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman and Kenan Thompson round out the remainder of the cast.
SNL‘s next episode, and first of 2025, is scheduled to air on Jan. 18.
Saturday Night Live airs weekends on NBC.
