LeBron James Makes History as Mattel’s First Male Kenbassador with Doll Capturing His Signature Style and Towering Height

LeBron James is making history once more. The 40-year-old basketball icon has partnered with Mattel to become the company’s first-ever Kenbassador, debuting a bespoke doll in his likeness. The collaboration, developed in conjunction with the LeBron James Family Foundation, also marks the first Ken doll to represent a professional athlete.

As a Los Angeles Lakers forward, James collaborated with Mattel to design the doll’s outfit, incorporating meaningful details such as a custom varsity jacket layered over a “We Are Family” T-shirt—a nod to his foundation. The ensemble also includes Nike Terminator High sneakers, Beats headphones, sunglasses, a fanny pack, a watch, and his signature “I Promise” band.

The varsity jacket’s patches symbolize key moments in James’ life. A “We Are Family” patch honors his charitable work, a “23” patch reflects his legendary jersey number, and an Ohio patch pays tribute to his roots.

“Growing up, I had role models who showed me the power of hard work and dedication,” James said in a statement. “Now, as an adult, I recognize how crucial it is for young people to have positive influences. Partnering with Barbie to create this Kenbassador doll is an incredible honor. It’s a chance to highlight the importance of role models who inspire confidence and show kids they can achieve greatness too.”

“Ken has always been Barbie’s trusted companion,” said Krista Berger, Mattel’s senior vice president of Barbie and global head of dolls. “This new iteration celebrates LeBron’s legacy as a role model, cultural icon, and advocate for empowering future generations.”

The Barbie film revitalized interest in the brand, with Ryan Gosling’s portrayal of Ken resonating widely—including an Academy Award nomination. This new Kenbassador iteration reimagines the character ahead of Barbie’s 65th anniversary in 2026.

The Barbie Signature LeBron James Kenbassador doll will be available starting April 14 at 12 a.m. ET via select Target stores and online retailers including Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Mattel Creations, priced at $75.
