Law Roach on Being Content as a Single Person: ‘I’ve Never Craved That Type of Love’
Law Roach is getting candid about his love life.
The 46-year-old image architect — who was joined by Keke Palmer and Normani during an Oct. 2 panel discussion about his new book How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence from the World’s Only Image Architect — revealed during the conversation that he’s “never craved” the type of love that may come from a partner.
“You know, some people go to bed and they dream about finding that significant other, a person that makes them whole or somebody to hold them at night. I’ve never craved that type of love,” Roach said. “I truly believe I was put on this Earth to be adored and for people to love me in a different type of way.”
“Now, that being said, if the universe wants to bless me with a man that’s a billionaire or very close to it, you know, my heart is open for that,” he added. “But I just never felt like that was my calling, and that’s okay. It’s the same way like, all women don’t crave to be mothers, right? And that’s okay, so it just was never my calling.”
Roach then added that even when he “got a chance to retire and have some time to self-reflect,” he still “felt the same type of way,” referring to his announcement in March 2023 that he was officially stepping away from celebrity styling.
“You know, for me, I need a glass of wine, good sex and a nap,” he said.
In response, Palmer told Roach that “the rom-com idea that this romantic love is the love that you’re looking for” has since become “about [how] the love that you have for yourself is going to make you whole.”
“That type of love that we see on TV, I feel is a little antiquated,” Roach responded. “Only because, you know, somebody can slide in your DMs and give you a happy face, and before you know it, y’all f——-.”
Roach’s comments on love come as his new book, which reveals the “secrets of his approach,” per a synopsis, arrived on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The new release, according to the synopsis, highlights the image architect’s many “tips, tricks, and most memorable styling moments to show readers how to live their most iconic and fashionable lives.”
Roach, who has curated looks for celebrities including Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Megan Thee Stallion and Ariana Grande, spoke with PEOPLE during New York Fashion Week in September, when he revealed that he “can’t” pick his favorite Zendaya look.
“I can’t say I have a favorite because they all mean so much,” he said at the Christian Cowan show. “We’ve been together for over a decade, and we’ve just done so many looks.”
Still, Roach shared that creating a look is “all about” confidence. “You can wear anything you want no matter your size, age, anything. It’s all about confidence.”
