Kevin Bacon Unveils His Wedding Fear: A Dance with Footloose Nightmares!

The Mystic River performer disclosed that he lacked any formal dance instruction prior to his role in Footloose.
“The fascinating aspect of the film is that I was not a skilled dancer,” he mentioned. “Growing up in Philadelphia, I adored dancing; in [New York], I would frequent Studio 54 and dance by myself all night — and this was while I was employed as a waiter. I have always enjoyed it.”
He elaborated: “However, when they forwarded the script to me, I was unaware it was a dance film. They had mentioned choreographers [and] I thought, ‘I really don’t need a choreographer. You can simply play the music, and I can dance around and enjoy myself.’ And they responded, ‘Ah — na na na, you don’t know what you’re getting into.’”
Although the part propelled Bacon to immediate fame and heartthrob recognition, he confessed that he wasn’t at ease with that particular kind of fame at the time.
“It was my aspiration to have my name in lights and appear on the Johnny Carson show with the actual Johnny Carson and be able to walk a red carpet, but until you truly have that, you don’t really comprehend that there is something rather peculiar about it,” he expressed while addressing the SXSW gathering.
He continued: “Now I am accustomed to it. I experienced imposter syndrome and was hesitant about it, and I did not want to do interviews or appear on magazines. I aimed to be a serious actor — I did not wish to be a pop icon. It was contrary to how I wanted to perceive myself.”
Moving to the current day, Bacon — who is featuring in the supernatural suspense series The Bondsman on Prime Video — outlined how he selects projects, noting that he has never genuinely had a “career strategy.”
“I suppose the initial factor is the character, and then you start examining the other components — the director, of course, along with the script, the cast, and the setting. I do my utmost to avoid considering the budget, the salary, or the role size. I strive to exclude those three factors. I also don’t fret about the size of a part,” he explained.
However, he remarked that despite lacking a formal plan, he always recognized he wished to be an actor.
“I desired to become an actor before I understood what an actor was,” he informed the audience. “When I would enter a room full of relatives, or if there was a gathering, I felt a strong impulse for everyone to gaze at me. I just knew I craved the attention. Over the years, I became aware there was an actual skill to it. But initially, it was simply about having as many eyes on me as possible.”
