**Kevin Bacon on Madoff Scam Fallout: “It Sucked Losing Everything, But Love with Kyra Sedgwick Saved Us”**

  • Kevin Bacon reflects on how Bernie Madoff’s financial fraud affected him and spouse Kyra Sedgwick
  • The actor revealed in a recent discussion that since Madoff’s 2008 exposure, he and Sedgwick (married since 1988) adopted greater financial caution
  • Madoff, who passed in 2021 aged 82, received a 150-year prison term in June 2009 for masterminding history’s largest U.S. Ponzi operation

Kevin Bacon shares insights about overcoming financial devastation caused by Bernie Madoff’s infamous investment scam that impacted him and partner Kyra Sedgwick.

While promoting his new Prime Video project The Bondsman in an April 4 Esquire interview, the 66-year-old performer addressed the long-term effects of Madoff’s criminal enterprise. The disgraced financier admitted guilt in 2009 to multiple federal charges including securities fraud and perjury.

“There’s little to elaborate beyond the obvious,” Bacon responded when queried about the scam. “Extraordinary promises usually signal deception.” When the journalist observed that neither he nor 59-year-old Sedgwick seemed emotionally scarred, the veteran actor clarified, “We remain vigilant, not cynical.”

The Golden Globe winner drew parallels between his workout routine and financial recovery: “At my modest gym overlooking Madoff’s former office, pushing through leg press agony mirrors our post-scam resilience. Like confronting those weights daily, we assessed our losses and moved forward.”

He elaborated on maintaining perspective after the $64.8 billion fraud: “The physical strain reminds me – we still had love, family, health, and careers. While anger surfaced initially, we focused on rebuilding rather than dwelling.”

Madoff perished in federal custody at 82 while serving his historic sentence. His scheme defrauded numerous high-profile investors including Hollywood icons Steven Spielberg.

Bacon previously addressed their financial losses during a 2022 SmartLess podcast episode, confirming their major investments with Madoff without specifying amounts. “This ordeal taught us to question improbable financial claims,” he reiterated.

The Emmy nominee’s latest series The Bondsman currently streams on Prime Video following its recent premiere.
