Joker 2 Star Tim Dillon Calls Movie the ‘Worst Film Ever Made’: ‘It’s Not Even Hate-Watchable’

Tim Dillon was not a fan of Joker: Folie à Deux.

The comedian — who had a small role in the movie as a guard at Arkham Asylum — spoke about the movie-musical sequel during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast’s Nov. 6 episode, calling it “the worst film ever made.”

Despite 2019’s Joker winning two Oscars, the sequel has had a “disappointing” run at the box office.

“I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels. This was loved by the wrong kinds of people,” Dillon, 39, said of the Todd Phillips-directed movie. “This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!’ All these think pieces.”

Dillon also focused on the major pivot the sequel made by incorporating music to the comic-book movie about one of Gotham’s most notorious villains. “And then I think [they said], ‘What if we went the other way,’ and now they have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing to a point where it’s insane.”

Dillon also claimed that the sequel had “no plot,” recalling when he spoke with others on the set about the storyline.

“We would sit there, me and these other guys were all dressed in these security outfits because we’re working at the Arkham Asylum, and I would turn to one of them and we’d hear this crap and I’d go, ‘What the f— is this?’ And they’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.’ ”

“We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, ‘What is the plot? Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable. That’s how terrible it is,” Dillon continued.

Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in the Joker: Folie A Deux

Per Rotten Tomatoes, a synopsis details that the film follows “Arthur Fleck [Phoenix] institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love [à la Gaga as Harley Quinn], but also finds the music that’s always been inside him.”

Joker 2 received a 32 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes from 349 reviews, earning poor reviews despite its star power and the success of its predecessor.

The CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery released a statement following the film’s underwhelming box office performance. “Even in an industry of hits and misses, we must acknowledge that our studios business must deliver more consistency,” David Zaslav said, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Variety reported that Zaslav also said, “Inconsistency also remains an issue at our motion picture studio, as reinforced recently by the disappointing results of Joker 2.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is now available on digital.
