On Sunday, July 28, the actor, 61, posted a tribute on his Instagram Stories for his Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides costar Tamayo Perry, who died in a shark attack in June.

Depp shared a black and white photo of Tamayo with the caption, “Even though it was some years ago now, I remember Tamayo well. A lovely man, with a huge heart and zest for life…”
He continued with a message to Tamayo’s wife, “Emilia, I send you all my love and strength. You are in my thoughts.”
Depp ended his post with a link to the late surf enthusiast’s GoFundMe page, which had raised $112,643 out of its of $200,000 goal at the time of reporting.
Johnny Depp’s friend: Tamayo — who also worked as a lifeguard — died at age 49 on June 23 when he was fatally injured in an incident that took place while he was surfing off the island of Oahu in Hawaii, according to the Associated Press.
“As you can imagine, this is [an] extremely difficult time for all of us. I ask for your kindness and your patience as we all just try to get through this next hour into these next weeks and months,” Shayne Enright of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department said in a press conference at the time.
Johnny Depp’s friend: Tamayo also starred in 2002’s Blue Crush and an episode of Hawaii Five-O.
The fundraising page was organized by the actor’s wife, Emilia Perry, and features a tribute to the late actor in the description, calling him a “hero.”
“We all want to be the hero of our own story, one of the redeeming characteristics of humanity is our desire to follow our convictions always and without fear. Few of us are able to truly be that hero, Tamayo Perry was is and will be forever,” the page reads. “He was everyone’s big brother, stern and uncompromising with an infectious and kolohe smile.”
Johnny Depp’s friend: In an update on Saturday, Emilia wrote, “The amount of love and support received is overwhelming and incredibly humbling.”
