The pair dated for five years before marrying in 2017, and within a year, they welcomed their first child together, daughter Giulietta. Chastain and Passi de Preposulo expanded their family with the addition of their second child, son Augustus, in 2020.
When confirming the news of her daughter’s birth on Instagram in December 2018, Chastain opened up about her love of motherhood.
“I know that I haven’t been as present on insta this past year. Thank you all for respecting my privacy while I was blessed with the gift of becoming a mother,” she wrote alongside her most liked photos from the year. “I must say that 2018 has been the best year of my life. So much love and joy to all of you.”

Giulietta Chastain Passi
Chastain and Passi de Preposulo welcomed their first child, daughter Giulietta Chastain Passi, on April 4, 2018.
Jessica Chastain’s 2 Children: Nine months later, Chastain shared the first glimpse at her daughter when she was getting ready for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards. The Molly’s Game star posted a photo of Giulietta’s hand reaching up toward a ring Chastain was holding. “You’ve got good taste, kid,” she captioned the post.
When Giulietta was 2, Chastain showed off the toddler’s impressive collection of dolls created in the likeness of women in politics, which included Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.
“A lot of kids play with Marvel characters and Barbies and that’s fine, but my kid … she plays with superheroes,” Chastain wrote alongside a since-deleted video posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Jessica Chastain’s 2 Children: In December 2022, Chastain gave insight into how she is raising Giulietta. Speaking with Marie Claire, the actress recalled a chat she had with her firstborn about dreaming big.
“I had a conversation with my daughter not that long ago,” she said. “When you’re talking to kids it’s like, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ … And she was like, ‘I want to be a mama.’ And I was like, ‘That’s a great thing to be. But you know, you can be more than one thing.’ She’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ ”
“I said, ‘Well, look at me, honey. I’m a mama. I’m an actress. I’m a producer. I’m a business owner. I’m a friend. I’m a cook.’ I started listing all these things,” Chastain continued. “You can be the president. You can be a ballerina. You can be a mama. And it was so shocking for her to hear all of this.”
Chastain is also teaching Giulietta to see the beauty in imperfection. During an interview with IndieWire in July 2023, she revealed that while doing research for her role in George & Tammy, she discovered that singer Tammy Wynette wasn’t always on pitch, which was “beautiful” to her.

“Il mio tesoro (my darling), Giulietta, Augustus, you are my heart,” she said. “Thank you all very very much. Thank you.”
After becoming a mother of two, Chastain opened up to Entertainment Tonight in January 2022 about making the set for her movie The 355 suitable for working moms.
