Jax Taylor Reveals His ‘Sixth Sense’ for Locating Cocaine During Addiction Struggles, No Matter the Place

- Jax Taylor revealed in March that he was addicted to cocaine and has since achieved sobriety from both cocaine and alcohol.
- On the April 17 episode of his podcast In The Mind of a Man, Taylor discussed with former Vanderpump Rules castmate Tom Schwartz how he felt he “needed” cocaine “to be social.”
- The star of The Valley announced he is now 139 days sober.
Jax Taylor candidly discussed his struggles with drug use during an episode featuring Tom Schwartz.
When Schwartz joined Taylor on the April 17 podcast, he noted Taylor’s remarkable knack for locating cocaine no matter where they were. “I did,” Taylor admitted. “I had a sixth sense for finding it, regardless of the state or country. I would find it within minutes.”
Last month, the star from The Valley disclosed his past addiction to cocaine and his journey to sobriety from both the drug and alcohol. Schwartz mentioned that he often recognized when Taylor had been using cocaine, observing how he held his drink and how “his eyes were bulging.”
“I reached the point where I needed it to socialize,” Taylor confessed on his podcast. “For me, it started as a way to enjoy myself, but toward the end, it was about staying awake because I would crash around 9 or 10 o’clock.”
Taylor assured viewers that they will witness his journey in season 2 of The Valley, which he anticipates will be a challenging experience to relive.
“I can reflect on my past and say that I was not a good person, but I’ve become a stronger individual today,” he shared. “I’ve worked tirelessly to get where I am now. It’s essential to remember that the footage was recorded a year ago. I am in a different place now with new relationships and dynamics, and I can see how much I’ve grown.”
The upcoming season of The Valley resumes nine months after Taylor’s separation from his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright. The episode features Schwartz encouraging Taylor to pursue professional help following a volatile incident involving Cartwright.
During the April 17 podcast episode, Taylor revealed he has been in therapy “for a while now” and has achieved 139 days of sobriety.
“I’m feeling strong,” Taylor told Schwartz. “I have no desire to drink or use drugs again. Initially, I thought I might struggle with temptation because I still go out and dine out, but honestly, I feel no compulsion at all.”
Taylor admitted to finding it challenging to socialize without alcohol, as he previously used it as a “social buffer” and relied on “liquid courage” to initiate conversations. He described himself as “California sober,” which typically means using only cannabis, and mentioned that he sometimes substitutes alcohol with energy drinks like Celsius or Red Bull.
“It’s not hard,” Taylor remarked. “But I do have to mentally prepare myself if I know I’ll be in a large crowd where people will be drinking.”
Taylor expressed that he misses none of the substance use experience.
“I absolutely gave myself the ‘ick’ when I looked back at my appearance in the Valley season 2 premiere,” he remarked. “I looked terrible, under 180 lbs., and I never want to return to that.”
