Jamie Foxx Sets Release Date for Comedy Special About His Health Scare: ‘The Story We’ve Been Waiting For’

Jamie Foxx is sharing a laugh with fans very soon.

Netflix announced Nov. 1 that the Oscar winner’s new special, billed as a “Netflix comedy event,” will premiere on the streaming platform Tuesday, Dec. 10. The show, directed by Hamish Hamilton, is titled Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was….

In a short teaser for the special, Foxx, 56, can be heard saying, “I said, ‘If I can stay funny, I can stay alive,’ ” and later, “I’m back.” A logline shared by Netflix teases that it’ll cover “the story we’ve been waiting for.”

Last month, Foxx wrote on Instagram about his emotional experience discussing his April 2023 health scare on stage.

He said, “My heart and my soul is filled with nothing but pure joy” after he “had an opportunity to tell my side of the story” at the gig in Atlanta.

Foxx suffered his medical emergency on April 11, 2023, while in Atlanta filming the Netflix movie Back in Action, which stars Cameron Diaz and is out Jan. 17.

“I have to thank you Atlanta you showed up and you showed out, I haven’t been on stage in 18 years but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was made up of nothing but pure love and that’s what you were,” he wrote in the Instagram post.

“When people ask me is this a stand up comedy show I say no it’s an artistic explanation,” explained Foxx. “Of some thing that went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people in Atlanta especially piedmont hospital you enabled me to come back and be on stage and do what I love to do the most.”
