James Bond Producer Teases Next Actor to Play Legendary Spy Will Likely Be in His 30s — and May Not Be a White Man

The producers are still working on paving a new path forward for the 007 franchise after Daniel Craig left Bond behind following 2021’s No Time to Die, his fifth and final movie in the role.

In addition to casting a new Bond, the producers are also working on what releasing a new 007 movie will look like in the future now that Amazon owns MGM, the company that financed and produced the series for years. According to the AP, Broccoli and Wilson own 50% of Bond, maintain creative control and insist that future movies be released in theaters.

“People are playing it very safe. I think in times of crisis like this, you’ve got to be brave,” Broccoli said. “It’s certainly a new era in the movie business, so we’re trying to figure it out.”

Several men have been rumored to be in the running for the role in the years since Craig’s departure, including Jacob Elordi, 27, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 34, and Callum Turner, 34. Taylor-Johnson specifically evaded questions about potentially joining the franchise in a March interview with Rolling Stone UK.

“I can only really talk about the things I’m going to show and tell,” he said at that time; that interview was published just days after U.K. newspaper The Sun reported that Taylor-Johnson received a formal offer for the role from Broccoli and Wilson’s production company Eon, citing sources.
