Jack Black On His Saturday Night Live Return: “It’s Crazy”

Jack Black feeling anxious about his return to Saturday Night Live is an understatement.

During a conversation with Variety at the London premiere of his upcoming action comedy, A Minecraft Movie, the 55-year-old actor confessed that his appearance on April 5 will be quite overwhelming after his 20-year break from Studio 8H.

“Just to let you know, I’ve been having plenty of nightmares, night terrors, and memories rushing back. It’s insane, extremely thrilling,” he explained.

Black’s most recent SNL hosting gig was on Dec. 17, 2005, as he was promoting King Kong. Nonetheless, the comedian also served as a host in 2002 and 2003.

Despite his pre-show nervousness, Black still holds great affection for “all those youngsters” at the long-standing sketch comedy show.

“I call them youngsters because I was on that show before some of them were born — except for Kenan [Thompson], we’re around the same age. That’s about it,” he quipped about the 46-year-old cast member who has been a mainstay for 22 seasons.

Although it’s been two decades since Black hosted SNL, he did make an appearance as a musical guest in 2006 with Kyle Gass as part of Tenacious D.

For his return on April 5, Elton John and Brandi Carlile will be the musical guests.

Black will be promoting A Minecraft Movie, where he stars alongside Jason Momoa.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the School of Rock alum and the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star, 45, sported matching custom sweaters.

“About a month ago, Jason gave me a call and said, ‘I’m going to make us sweaters. What are your colors?’ ” Black reminisced. “And I said, I replied, ‘Blue, green, and purple.’ And he said, ‘Consider it done. Click.’ And here we are.”

He exclaimed, “Man, what an awesome gift,” while bumping fists with Momoa, who wore a blend of pink and purple.

A Minecraft Movie centers around the popular video game aimed at ages 10 and above.

Aside from Black and Momoa, the film directed by Jared Hess also features Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder‘s Emma Myers, Orange Is the New Black‘s Danielle Brooks, up-and-coming talent Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Flight of the Conchords actor Jemaine Clement.

A Minecraft Movie hits theaters on April 4.
