Gwyneth Paltrow’s Shallow Hal Directors Wonder If They Inspired Her to Name Daughter Apple: She ‘Has Never Given Us Credit’
Gwyneth Paltrow may have found inspiration for her daughter’s name when working on Shallow Hal.
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Shallow Hal film producers, Bobby and Peter Farrelly, appeared as guests on The Jess Cagle Show. The brothers discussed the film which starred Jack Black and Paltrow, and cohost Julia Cunningham pointed out an interesting correlation between Peter’s 22-year-old daughter and Paltrow’s 20-year-old daughter: they’re both named Apple.
“You have a daughter who’s a rising actress, and I was shocked to see that her name is Apple — possibly the original Apple,” Cunningham shared. “I was thinking, did that name seep into Gwyneth Paltrow’s brain during Shallow Hal?”
“Apple was a baby when we did Shallow Hal,” Peter said of his daughter, joking that “Gwyneth has never given us credit for that.”
In addition to Apple, the actress is also a mom to son Moses, 18, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Martin.
In October, the Goop founder opened up about how her life has shifted since both her kids left the nest during a Q&A session on her Instagram Stories. With Apple and Moses off at college, one fan asked, “How’s life as a free bird?”
“Thank you for asking,” the actress replied in a video. “It’s very different. I have waves of grief and sadness.”
However, she shared that she’s also found positives in her kids being away at college.
“I am kind of getting back in touch with this part of myself that I haven’t felt like since I was in my 20s before I had kids,” Paltrow explained. “Like, a little more space and imagination, maybe. A little more inner space for what I might want to do that day, stuff like that.”
“So, it’s evolving. It’s interesting,” she added.
Paltrow participated in another Instagram Stories Q&A in July, where she posted both a sweet snap of herself with Apple and Moses and some thoughts on the traits about them she loves and worries about.
In response to a follower asking Paltrow for her “last photo with Moses,” the actress posted a sweet summery photo of herself standing between her two children on a countryside path surrounded by greenery.
“I think my kids both really know themselves very well and that’s a trait about them that I both love and admire,” she said. “And I guess one I worry about for both of them is anxiety. This is, as we know, the anxious generation. So that’s probably what I worry about.”
