Florence Pugh Reveals She’s ‘Always Been Thinking’ About Having Kids: ‘I Love the Idea of a Big Family’

Florence Pugh is opening up about her desire to be a mother.

While chatting with British Vogue for their October issue published Wednesday, Sept. 18, the Midsommar actress, 28, revealed that she’s always loved kids and dreams of having her own. “Oh, I’ve always been thinking about starting a family,” she told the outlet.

“I’ve wanted to have kids since I was a child myself,” she continued. “I love the idea of a big family. I come from a big family. I love kids. I love hanging out with kids. If ever there’s a dinner party, I go straight to the kids to chat to them.”

Pugh admitted that she finds chatting with children “so much easier” than adults.

“I love the honesty,” she explained. “I love how bored they can get. I’ve never stopped knowing that I want to have kids. It’s just figuring out when.”

Recently speaking with Vanity Fair for an interview published on Sept. 5, Pugh explained why she decided to shave her head for her new movie We Live in Time so she could immerse herself in her role as Almut, a chef who is diagnosed with cancer.

Director John Crowley told Pugh that wigs and other hairpieces were options — but she was adamant about fully committing to her character’s journey with a real-life transformation, the article explained.

“I just stopped him mid-sentence and I was like, ‘John, no one can play a character like this in a movie like this and not do the thing that is needed to be done,’ ” she shared. “And if you don’t want to do it, I believe that you shouldn’t be doing a story like this.”

Pugh debuted her buzz cut at the 2023 Met Gala, which she accessorized with a towering headpiece, and the new look quickly became subject to commentary online. 

“I think there was this weird rumor on the internet saying that I did it to take back my identity,” Pugh recalled reading, though she never claimed any statement of the sort in her “entire life.”
