Flavor Flav Has Been Wearing the Same Cologne Since Fourth Grade: ‘Come on the Scene Fresh and Clean’ (Exclusive)

Flavor Flav is sharing his smell-good secrets.

The rapper, 65, tells PEOPLE that finding the right scent is a must.

“Everybody should want to smell fresh from [their] underarms all the way down to [their] toes,” he says. “When I was a kid, my dad used to always keep Old Spice in the cabinet in the bathroom. So that was the cologne that I used to wear when I used to go to school in the fourth grade.”

To always “come on the scene fresh and clean,” he says it’s also necessary to be a shower devotee.

“Hey, after every hour, nothing wrong with taking a shower,” he rhymes with a laugh. “That’s the only other tactic that I use to keep myself smelling good, you know what I’m saying?”

Flav knows multiple showers a day are a bit much, however, adding that if he’s washing up more than once or twice it’s for “good reason.”

Today, Flavor Flav is highlighting his love of another Old Spice product: the Total Body Deodorant. As part of his partnership, he hyped up his favorite NFL team, the Detroit Lions, alongside Kay Adams and Spice Adams in an Instagram video all about keeping it fresh.

“Just caught up with two of the freshest legends, @flavorflavofficial and @spiceadams! 🔥 We’re diving into the playbook on all things freshness with @oldspice Total Body Deodorant 🏈,” Kay wrote in a caption. The duo also shared the full clip on YouTube.

Flav couldn’t help but gush to PEOPLE about the its staying power, and how much he loves the smell.

“It was around before I came into existence, and I think it’s going to be around well after I stop existing. Physically, I mean,” he says with a laugh.

And not one to ever be without his clock necklace, Flavor Flav even wore an Old Spice-themed piece of jewelry for his ad spot. He rocked a red clock on a gold chain with the brand’s logo and the “Lasting Freshness” slogan on it, of course.

“The clock’s got some freshness to it too,” he says of his timepiece.

Flav says at this point in his life, he’s not even sure how many clocks he has in his collection, but if he had to guess, he would say it’s “a bunch.” As for how they’re stored, there’s no special method to the madness. In fact, they’re not even all in his own house.

“I just have them scattered,” he shares. “Some in this bag, some in that bag, some on my wall in the house. I got some clocks at my sister’s house, some clocks at my kids’ cribs. I got clocks all over the place.”

He also loves to share the joy when it comes to the clocks — making clocks for other celebrities like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Jordan Chiles and more over the years.
