Eva Amurri Says Mom Susan Sarandon Was an ‘Almond Mom’ — and Thought Cheerios Were a ‘Junk Food’
Eva Amurri is looking back on what her childhood was like with mom Susan Sarandon.
Speaking with SheKnows for their 2024 Holiday digital issue, Eva Amurri, 39, was asked how she parents differently from her mom, actress Sarandon. Amurri, who is mom to kids Marlowe Mae, 9, Major James, and Mateo Antoni, 4, whom she shares with ex-husband Kyle Martin, says the key difference comes down to diet.
“My mom was a tried and true ‘almond mom.’ She used to walk down to the Village to the only organic grocery store that existed in New York City in the early ’80s and would get everything there,” Amurri remembers.
“My mom thought Cheerios was a junk food – that is how almond mom she was,” she jokes. “My 4-year-old will eat half of an ice cream and he’ll be like, ‘I think I’m done,’ you know? He won’t eat past what he wants, I think because I’m just so nonchalant about it.”
This past summer, Amurri tied the knot with chef Ian Hock at Windrift Hall in New York’s Hudson Valley. She told PEOPLE that when planning her big day, she wanted her kids to be a main focus.
“We really wanted to center our little family unit in all of it, and make it as much about the kids as it was about us,” Amurri told PEOPLE.
“We worked with our officiant to craft a ceremony that felt super personal and intimate, and then focused on our second love of life: food! All we really needed was the beautiful atmosphere, our nearest and dearest, and a delicious party.”
She also shared that her kids had special roles throughout the wedding, including being in the bridal party.
“We wanted to write our own love letters to each other to read as vows, which was so special for us,” said Amurri. “We also didn’t have any bridal party besides the kids, and it was perfect. Major (Eva’s son) walked me down the aisle, which was an experience I’ll never forget.”
