Elizabeth Olsen is an enthusiastic supporter of her family structure.
The Assessment actress visited Today with Jenna & Friends on Tuesday, March 25, where she shared uncommon insights about her well-known older twin sisters Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen.
“I am one of six [siblings],” Elizabeth, 36, conveyed to Jenna Bush Hager and guest co-host (and twin sister!) Barbara Bush. “I cherished it, particularly being the youngest. I truly appreciated it.”
“I also genuinely admire the relationship that [Mary-Kate and Ashley] share and don’t compete with it, in a sense. It’s something unique,” she elaborated. “It’s a fascinating thing to observe. I admire it; it’s a distinct kind of bond.”
Although Elizabeth holds a great appreciation for her child-star-turned-fashion-designer elder sisters, the WandaVision alum had previously stated that she contemplated utilizing her middle name — Chase — when she embarked on her acting journey, to evade “nepotism” linked to being the younger sibling of Mary-Kate and Ashley.
“I was 10 and curious about auditioning … and I quickly realized that it wasn’t meant for me because I was missing my sports teams, my dance lessons, and all the extracurricular activities at school,” Elizabeth recounted to Glamour UK‘s digital April 2021 edition about her early fascination with the industry.
“But during that period, I thought, ‘I don’t want to be associated with [Mary-Kate and Ashley],’ for some reason,” she continued. “I suppose I intuitively understood the concept of nepotism even as a 10-year-old. I may not have known the term, but there was a notion of not earning something that I think troubled me from a young age.”
While Elizabeth recognized that the realization “was tied to [her] own insecurities,” she recalled thinking as a child, ” ‘I will be Elizabeth Chase when I become an actress.’ “
In a May 2022 interview with Harper’s Bazaar about her life and flourishing career, Elizabeth later described what it was like growing up with two of Hollywood’s most renowned twins.
“I always perceived that having older twin sisters was a benefit,” she stated at the time. “I felt very certain about how I was going to approach various things because of observing them. I also felt very safeguarded.”
While she acknowledged that the 38-year-old twins’ bond is beyond comparison, she told the magazine that their closeness in age made her feel like she, Ashley, and Mary-Kate formed a trio.
“There’s something about that connection that I will never experience, but I feel fortunate to witness it,” Elizabeth said. “I genuinely believe it’s an incredible feeling to be the younger sibling of twin sisters. If one spoiled me, the other sought to reciprocate. I cherished it.”
