Dolly Parton’s Surprising Condition for Teaming Up with Sabrina Carpenter

Prior to Dolly Parton agreeing to feature on Sabrina Carpenter’s remix of “Please, Please, Please,” the country icon had a specific guideline.

In a conversation with Knox News during an interview released on Tuesday, March 18, Parton commended the “Espresso” performer but remarked that she does “occasionally speak a bit poorly” — which contradicts Parton’s principles.

“I informed her, I mentioned, ‘Now, I don’t swear,’” the “9 to 5” vocalist, 79, stated. “’I don’t mock Jesus. I don’t speak ill of God, and I don’t utter inappropriate words in front of the camera, although I’m known to if I become sufficiently angry.’”

Consequently, Carpenter removed the “motherf—er” from the remix’s chorus and altered it to “I beg you, don’t humiliate me like the others.”

Carpenter, 25, unveiled Parton’s country version of her 2024 single on Feb. 14 as part of the deluxe edition of her album Short n’ Sweet.

“Dolly and I performing in a pickup truck!!!!!! I feel incredibly grateful to have one of my greatest inspirations on a track that holds immense significance for me. The ‘Short n’ Sweet’ deluxe is available now! Go check it out and listen!!!! Love you endlessly @dollyparton 🤍🦋,” Carpenter shared in a teaser for the music video on Instagram.

A few days afterwards, Parton shared an adorable clip on TikTok showing her and Carpenter enjoying each other’s company on the set of their music video.

“Two blondes are one thing, a collaboration with @Sabrina Carpenter is something entirely different 💋,” Parton noted in the caption. “Behind the scenes of ‘Please Please Please,’ now available…”

In the behind-the-scenes footage, Carpenter and Parton exchanged sweet moments on set and frequently praised one another.

At one moment, Carpenter was spotted greeting Parton as she climbed into a blue truck and took her place next to her in the driver’s seat. “Hi, how are you?” Parton inquired as Carpenter responded, “How are you? You look fantastic!”

In another clip, they were seen chatting and laughing together inside the truck.

“We’re in a truck,” Parton stated to the camera from the passenger side. “We’re in a pickup truck,” Carpenter elaborated. “Big hair. Everything is just … the stars are aligning.”

Meanwhile, the retro-themed music video featured a subtle reference to Carpenter’s former partner, actor Barry Keoghan, and depicts Carpenter and Parton traveling down a countryside road while being pursued by law enforcement, with a handcuffed man lying in the back of the truck. The original music video showcased Keoghan, 32, as a felon.

When queried about whom she wishes to collaborate with next, Parton stated, “Whoever contacts me that I admire.”

She continued, “(And) I’ll say, ‘Yes, I’ll do that!”
