In February of that year, during an interview with Columbia’s student newspaper The Blue and White magazine, he shared how growing up in an artistic household influenced his academic choices. “It’s wonderful to learn about different artists and movements, as the art world is constantly evolving and introducing new ideas,” he remarked, noting the connection between art and sociology.

While at Columbia, Coby was also a forward on the men’s basketball team, which helped him connect with his peers. “Many come to Columbia for academics but played sports in high school,” he noted. “Athletics creates common ground and fosters camaraderie through shared experiences like early mornings and physical strain.”

Coby is a former professional basketball player

After finishing his studies, Coby spent a year in the Spanish basketball league and played with the Haitian national team for a summer. “During that time, I aimed to adopt traits that would enhance my game,” he noted in an interview. “Being a good teammate and understanding the game—this process turned me into a student of the game.”

In a September 2023 interview, he explained how mindfulness has aided him in overcoming various life challenges, including moments when he was passed over for playing time. “I found an article from Harvard Business Review discussing how mindfulness is crucial to the success of leaders and CEOs,” Coby shared. “Even when my life was tumultuous, I felt a greater sense of peace within myself.”
