Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande Bring Wicked Method Dressing to Academy Gala — with a Few Twists!

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are looking magical!

The Wicked costars embraced method dressing for their upcoming film as they attended the fourth annual Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, Oct. 19, though they gave their fairytale looks a little contemporary edge.

Erivo, 37, arrived in her first of two looks of the night wearing a custom Louis Vuitton strapless gown in green — matching the color associated with her character Elphaba in Wicked — with intricate beading and a bubble hem.

The actress accessorized her look with a stack of silver bracelets and rings with green stones, along with matching drop earrings. She wore shimmering green eyeshadow with a brown lip.

Grande, 31, embodied the fairytale princess look of her Wicked character Glinda the Good Witch — with a twist — as she wore a custom Balmain 1963 couture gown in a black and white polka dot strapless design, rather than the pink that Glinda is known for. The dress had a bow detail across the chest, a fitted black waistband and a full skirt.

The pair posed on the red carpet with the likes of Jeff Goldblum, gala honoree Rita Moreno and Lena Waithe before joining more guests inside.

Erivo later switched up her look inside the gala as she performed wearing a more fitted, contemporary emerald green rhinestone long-sleeved dress. The elegant gown featured and outer layer of sheer fabric, structured shoulders and a gathered detailing on the skirt.

The annual gala welcomed a star-studded guestlist, including Salma Hayek, Nicole Kidman, Eva Longoria and Tyler Perry serving as the gala co-chairs for 2024, as Moreno, 92, Paul Mescal and Quentin Tarantino were honored at the event.

Erivo and Grande are preparing for the fall release of the Wicked movie adaptation by Universal, which is based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. The book has also been transformed into a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical.

Over the summer, the ladies arrived at the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony in Paris dressed in their characters’ signature colors.

For the big day, they posed side by side for photographers with the Eiffel Tower as their backdrop.

The “thank u, next” singer’s entire outfit was a chic pastel pink look by Thom Browne.

Grande tapped into her inner Glinda in a midi-length duchess silk satin dress with a single bow around the garment’s drop waist. A matching bow in her hair pulled her style together along with white silk gloves. She rounded things off with light pink pointed-toe heels.

Erivo flexed her fashion in a strapless emerald-green midi dress, adding a wide-brimmed hat for extra witchy drama. The Harriet star’s extra long nails gave her a villainess vibe.

She accessorized her Parisian look with Roberto Coin jewels.

In addition to Grande and Erivo, the Jon M. Chu-directed film will star Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), as well as Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Keala Settle and Ethan Slater.

Wicked: Part One is in theaters Nov. 22. Part Two is slated for Nov. 26, 2025.
