Cheryl Hines ‘Talking About Filing for Divorce’ from RFK Jr., ‘but He’s Begging Her Not to’ (Exclusive Source)

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is “begging” wife Cheryl Hines not to file for divorce in the wake of his alleged “personal relationship” with journalist Olivia Nuzzi.

A source close to Hines tells PEOPLE exclusively that the former presidential candidate’s alleged affair with the New York magazine reporter, 31, is “embarrassing” for her.

“She’s been very angry about it. She has a great support team to vent to though,” the source says of the actress, detailing that “everyone’s on her side, of course.”

The Curb Your Enthusiasm star, 59, is currently considering taking legal action, the insider adds.

“She’s been talking about filing for divorce, but he’s begging her not to file,” the source tells PEOPLE of the pair. “But how many times can you forgive a partner that’s dishonest and goes behind your back? It’s just ridiculous behavior from a grown, married man.”

A representative for Hines had no comment, while one for Kennedy did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

News that Hines is considering divorce comes after she and Kennedy, 70, were spotted together for the first time since his alleged affair with Nuzzi.

Hines and Kennedy were seen in Malibu, Calif., on Oct. 5, per photos published by Page Six.

The actress sat in the passenger seat of a car while Kennedy drove, and they were seen stopping at a Starbucks, according to the outlet.

Another source tells PEOPLE that the couple has “spent time in Los Angeles together this week,” but “things seem pretty tense” between them.

Plus, “Cheryl’s without her wedding ring,” the source adds.

Kennedy and Nuzzi’s alleged “relationship” made headlines after New York magazine published a statement announcing that the journalist had been put on leave on Sept. 19.

The statement claimed that Nuzzi “acknowledged” that she “engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign.”

At the time, Nuzzi said in a statement shared with PEOPLE that “the nature of some communication” between herself and “a former reporting subject turned personal,” but said she “did not directly report on the subject nor use them as a source” during that time.

“The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict,” she further detailed in the statement. “I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I’ve disappointed, especially my colleagues at New York.”

A representative for Kennedy addressed the alleged relationship in a statement to The Washington Post, claiming the former candidate only met the reporter one time for her November 2023 story titled “The Mind-Bending Politics of RFK Jr.’s Spoiler Campaign.”

“Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece,” the rep told the outlet.

Hines has not publicly addressed her husband’s alleged extramarital relationship.
