Caution: This article includes spoilers from the March 7 finale of season 3 of The Way Home.

Amidst the emotional moments during the season 3 conclusion of Hallmark Channel’s The Way Home, a few wedding sounds were heard.

Following Del’s (Andie MacDowell) first request for time travel, she and Kat (Chyler Leigh) found themselves in the 1970s right in time for her to witness her younger self (Julia Tomasone) wed her true love, Colton (Jordan Doww).

Every detail was considered, as evidenced by PEOPLE’s exclusive images from the imaginary wedding day.

“[It’s] a romantic tale for the ages,” Sadie Laflamme-Snow, portraying their future granddaughter Alice, shared on Instagram regarding the joyful couple.

Lovely as a Portrait

Del’s gown “was a unique piece created by our lead in wardrobe, Trysha Bakker, and hand-stitched by her team,” co-showrunner Alexandra Clarke divulged exclusively to PEOPLE regarding the dress Tomasone donned in the episode. “It drew inspiration from conventional bridal designs of the time. We aimed to maintain young Del’s preppy, elegant, and modest style, reflecting her privileged high society background rather than leaning too much towards a hippie or bohemian style. However, we also wished to keep the dress simple in shape and fabric to symbolize the new (more economical) life she begins with Colton on the farm.”

One of Del’s adornments held a personal significance just for Clarke. “The bow headpiece was not only time-appropriate but also a playful nod to my own wedding dress from my nuptials,” she confesses.

His Gaze of Affection

“We enjoyed this one!” Clarke remarks regarding Colton’s wedding ensemble, worn by Doww. “As before, it was entirely original and crafted by our wardrobe team. It was inspired by suits we found in a 1974 department store catalog. We always envisioned Colton dressed in brown to truly connect him to the Landry farmland he cherishes. Naturally, while keeping the suit quite conservative overall, we had to add a little flair with the tie to embrace the ’70s style!”

They Say “I Do”! And They Will Again

“Interesting tidbit: The arbor under which Colton and Del wed serves as a bit of an Easter egg for our most dedicated fans,” Clarke reveals. “It stands precisely at the same location as the famous outdoor dining pergola built in the 1999 version of the farm (a setting for numerous family meals during that era). We fundamentally wished to convey that a young Colton and Del constructed this little arbor for their wedding and cherished it so much that they built a more lasting version in that exact spot once they established a family. Ultimately, that’s what our show embodies!”

Guess Who’s Intruding

At this point in the season for contemporary Del (MacDowell, accompanied by Leigh as Kat), “everything has been cast into doubt regarding her romantic journey with Colton and how she recollects it,” Clarke explains the reason behind her decision to time travel for the first time. “To provide her with this significant redemptive experience, she had to revisit what is arguably the beginning of a chapter of their love story, as well as the fairytale conclusion of their adolescent romance, which is this wedding. It was essential for her to know that her memories are accurate, that she wasn’t mistaken, and that she shouldn’t question their love. It was exactly as she recalled.”

“Our remarkable set design crew, under the direction of Elliott Carew, managed all the embellishments for the wedding. The palette of yellows, oranges, and whites, along with the daisies, carnations, and greenery selected, were all a delightful nod to the period,” remarks Clarke.

For the Love of Characters

“However, we consistently considered our characters — a newly married young duo with limited funds just embarking on their journey — thus we aimed to avoid making things overly extravagant or unattainable, opting instead for items that would have been accessible to them during that era,” Clarke continues. “We selected flowers and decorations that would be budget-friendly while simultaneously highlighting Del’s elegant and refined taste from her previous high-society North Carolina existence. Ultimately, the wedding embodies a splendid blend of champagne elegance on a beer budget.”

“We were just fortunate,” co-showrunner Heather Conkie shares with PEOPLE about the ’70s ensemble introduced this season, including Doww and Tomasone. “And the fact that they are all immensely skilled, and that Jordan can sing, and all those aspects just aligned perfectly. They’re simply remarkable.”
