Mikey Madison’s Mermaid Thriller: Post-Oscar Splash with Kirsten Dunst

Mikey Madison and Kirsten Dunst are slated to headline a mermaid thriller titled Reptilia.

Madison’s recent Best Actress win for Anora came as a surprise earlier this year, surpassing expectations for Demi Moore. Dunst’s previous role saw her portraying a war photojournalist in Alex Garland’s Civil War.

Mikey Madison is embarking on her next endeavor!

The 26-year-old star of Anora will share the screen with Kirsten Dunst in Reptilia, a thriller helmed by Alejandro Landes Echavarría, according to reports.

Penned by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman, the narrative centers on “a dental hygienist seduced by a mysterious mermaid into the dark and wet underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade.”

This project follows Madison’s surprising Best Actress victory at the Oscars for her performance in Anora. Madison, also known for her roles in Scream 5 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, saw Demi Moore widely considered a frontrunner in the category for her work in The Substance.

The day after the awards, Moore, 62, shared an Instagram video showcasing highlights from the 97th Academy Awards, including moments of her preparing with her team and her dog Pilaf.

“As this awards season comes to a close, I’m so overwhelmed with gratitude for this journey,” she wrote, acknowledging the “cast, crew, and fans” of The Substance, as well as director Coralie Fargeat and costar Margaret Qualley. “So grateful for my team, my fellow nominees, and everyone who has made this experience so full of joy and light.”

Moore concluded her post by congratulating the winner: “a huge congratulations to #MikeyMadison — can’t wait to see what you do next ♥️.”

Dunst’s most recent project was Civil War, an A24 drama directed by Alex Garland, where she played a war photographer.

The Oscar-nominated actress, 43, conveyed the seriousness with which she approached the role.

“I just carried that camera around all the time,” Dunst shared in a behind-the-scenes video.

“As soon as I got the role, I was like, ‘Alex, give me the camera,’ ” Dunst said, adding that she “was a little bit insecure” about accurately portraying her character, a photojournalist named Lee Smith. “That was my biggest fear, actually, looking like I didn’t know what I was doing with the camera, or holding it in a way that it wasn’t like a part of my body.”
