“Ariana Grande’s Dark CinemaCon Look Sparks Glinda Transformation Theories in *Wicked*”

Ariana Grande has consistently showcased Glinda’s signature pink ensembles since the promotional campaign for Wicked launched, but the superstar recently shifted her aesthetic toward a dramatically darker palette.
The 31-year-old singer attended CinemaCon 2025’s Wicked: For Good showcase in Las Vegas on April 2. Grande joined director Jon M. Chu, producer Marc E. Platt, and co-star Cynthia Erivo at the event.
While Grande typically embraces thematic attire aligned with her character’s vibrant persona — wearing shades from soft blush to neon pink — her latest appearance featured a sleek black velvet gown, mirroring Erivo’s signature dark-toned wardrobe choices.
“This press tour began with an homage to Billie Burke’s iconic Glinda in The Wizard of Oz,” she explained to Vogue Australia. “The celestial motifs on my sleeves and bodice were inspired by Glinda’s wand from the classic film.”
Grande added, “Collaborating on style concepts with my stylist Mimi Cuttrell, sourcing vintage elements that complement our narrative, and finally showcasing these creations has been extraordinary. I’m thankful the farewell to these looks isn’t permanent yet — fashion has added such delight to this journey.”
Her CinemaCon appearance notably diverged from previous vibrant outfits. This stylistic shift might reflect personal preference or hint at Glinda’s evolving trajectory in the upcoming sequel.
Costume designer Paul Tazewell revealed in a March interview with PEOPLE that both main characters will experience significant wardrobe evolutions in Wicked’s second installment.
Regarding Glinda’s transformation, Tazewell noted, “Her new political role at Emerald City’s palace demands sophisticated, status-appropriate garments that exude elegance and authority.”
