Ariana Grande Says ‘Of Course’ She and Cynthia Erivo Would Perform at Academy Awards: ‘Say the Word and We’ll Be There’
“We were just crying together and screaming, and we sent each other flowers immediately,” Grande previously told PEOPLE of her and Erivo’s reactions to their Golden Globe nominations. “I’m just really deeply proud of her and of us together and the work that we’ve done. And to see it be recognized is just so — the weight is more than I could have imagined.”
Grande and Erivo will have to wait until the Oscar nominations are announced on Jan. 17. 2025 to know whether their performances and their blockbuster musical film have received any nominations.
While Grande spoke with THR at the Dec. 17 event, she also reflected on the most endearing reactions she has received to Wicked in the nearly four weeks since the movie was released in theaters.
“We got to meet Steven Spielberg, that was also incredibly overwhelming and such an honor. And he was so kind, and it was just really exciting,” she said. “You have these idols in music and film, and then to hear a kind thing said about your work is really extraordinarily special.”
Wicked: Part One is in theaters now. The Golden Globe Awards will air on CBS and Paramount+ Sunday, Jan. 5, while the 97th Oscars take place Sunday, March 2.
