A federal judge dismissed one of the sexual assault lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs when the unidentified plaintiff failed to re-file the complaint using her real name.

Initially using the alias Jane Doe, the woman filed a lawsuit against Combs in the Southern District of New York in October 2024, alleging he assaulted her at a gathering in 1995.

On Monday, March 31, 2025, the case was thrown out by a federal judge after the plaintiff did not submit a new complaint under her actual identity.

“On March 6, 2025, the Court rejected Plaintiff’s request to proceed anonymously and instructed her to file a complaint under her true identity by March 20, 2025, or the case would be closed,” U.S. District judge Lewis J. Liman wrote in a ruling obtained by PEOPLE. “As of [March 3], Plaintiff has not filed a complaint under her real name, nor has she asked for additional time to do so. Consequently, the case has been dismissed.”

Combs’ legal team commended the judge’s ruling in a statement.

“For several months, we have witnessed case after case brought by individuals hiding behind anonymity, propelled by attorneys more concerned with media attention than legal validity,” his legal team stated. “The other allegations, like the one dismissed today, will also not stand in a court of law.”

Represented by Tony Buzbee, a prominent attorney from Houston, the woman was one of many who had accused Combs of sexual misconduct.

Since the announcement, several of Buzbee’s clients, including the Jane Doe whose case was recently dismissed, have sued the founder of Bad Boy Records.

Combs’ legal team also criticized Buzbee in a statement following the dismissal.

“This is now the second lawsuit filed by these attorneys against Mr. Combs that has been completely dismissed,” Combs’ attorneys declared. “It will not be the final one.”

Despite this dismissal, Combs is still facing numerous lawsuits accusing him of wrongdoing. He has refuted these claims.

Additionally, the music tycoon is confronting criminal charges after being indicted in September for federal sex offenses, including sex trafficking and racketeering. He has pleaded not guilty.

Combs’ criminal trial is scheduled to commence in May. He is currently in custody in Brooklyn after being denied release on bail.
