Alicia Silverstone Set to Return in Exciting New Series Reviving the Clueless Legacy

Time to dust off the flip phones and yellow plaid suits because Cher Horowitz is making a comeback!
Alicia Silverstone is poised to reprise her iconic role from Clueless in a sequel series for Peacock, as reported by industry insiders. The 48-year-old actress also shared her excitement for the new project on Instagram on April 17.
“Totally buggin’… in the best way 💁♀️✨,” Silverstone captioned a post that included a still and GIF from Clueless, along with a screenshot of the announcement.
While details about the series’ plot remain under wraps, it is confirmed to be a follow-up to the original movie. The creators of Gossip Girl, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, are on board as writers, joined by Jordan Weiss. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film, will serve as an executive producer, alongside Silverstone and producer Robert Lawrence.
This new series is entirely distinct from a previous 2020 attempt to reboot Clueless for Peacock, which intended to focus on the character Dionne Davenport, played by Stacey Dash, while Cher would be absent.
Clueless premiered in 1995 and was loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel Emma. The film featured a star-studded cast, including Donald Faison, Brittany Murphy, Breckin Meyer, and Dan Hedaya. Additionally, a short-lived sitcom that starred Rachel Blanchard as Cher aired from 1996 to 1999.
Silverstone rose to stardom due to Clueless‘s success and has enjoyed revisiting her character in recent years. She appeared as Cher in a commercial for Rakuten during the 2023 Super Bowl. In 2018, she donned the classic yellow plaid ensemble for an episode of Lip Sync Battle, performing Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” amidst a set designed to resemble Cher’s bedroom. Moreover, she hilariously recreated a scene with her son Bear in a TikTok video from 2021.
During The Good Festival’s Sustainability Spotlights event in May 2024, Silverstone expressed her belief that Cher would be an eco-friendly fashion icon if she were shopping in the 2020s.
“I think Cher is a lot like having a kid in that she’d want the thing she desires, but she has such a big heart that she’d want to make the right choice,” Silverstone elaborated. “So she’d probably shop at The Real Real to find fabulous designer pieces that are secondhand, allowing her to look amazing without the guilt.”
