The Mathis Crew: Meet Judge Mathis’ Children

Judge Greg Mathis’ career in law and entertainment has clearly influenced his four children.

The TV judge – known for his long-running show, Judge Mathis – married Linda Reese Mathis in June 1985. (Linda filed for divorce in August 2024, but after Mathis expressed his determination to win her back, they reconciled.)

Together, the couple has four children: daughters Jade and Camara, and sons Greg Jr. and Amir. Interestingly, each has pursued careers that parallel their father’s: Jade and Camara followed paths in law, while Greg Jr. and Amir are involved in acting and production.

In 2022, the family launched their reality TV show, Mathis Family Matters, offering a glimpse into their professional lives and relationships. Mathis shared that the project presented a “unique opportunity to show a Black family in a positive light.”

He continued, “Our family is not perfect by any means, but we are a family that has a lot of fun together and are all very passionate about our careers and giving back. We also stick together, support each other, and work through life challenges together when things get tough.”

Mathis added, “Now that our kids are all adults – they have to make their own choices, and all we can do is sit back and watch.”

Here’s a closer look at Judge Greg Mathis’ children: Jade, Camara, Greg Jr., and Amir.

Jade Mathis, 39

Mathis and Linda welcomed their first child, daughter Jade Ellis Mathis, on Sept. 2, 1985.

Jade followed in her father’s footsteps into the legal profession after studying broadcast journalism in college and attending law school. She served seven years as the assistant state attorney for Prince George’s County, Md., from 2014 to 2021, according to her professional profile.

While in college in 2006, Jade was diagnosed with clinical depression, ADHD, and a learning disorder after her father encouraged her to seek treatment.

“I was about 20 years old, and I was just having a difficult time focusing at school. I was at home in bed all day with the windows and the blinds closed, just in the dark, random crying, and overwhelming sadness,” Jade recounted in May 2022.

When she confided in her dad about her mental health, he immediately offered support and resources. “He immediately said, ‘You need to go see someone. We’re going to have you go see a psychologist,’ ” Jade recalled Mathis suggesting.

Jade first spoke publicly about her mental health in 2016, when her testimony about her clinical depression diagnosis went viral. This speech launched her career as a mental health advocate, and in October 2021, she founded The Resilient JEM, putting her law career on hold to travel the country as a public speaker and advocate.

“I want people to see you are not alone, and it’s okay,” she shared in June 2022. “I look forward to inspiring people to remain resilient. That is my mission and my calling and my purpose.”

Jade’s work also includes criminal justice reform, and she regularly advocates for victims of racial violence. A resident of Washington, D.C., she also hosts the segment “Legal Pop” on the local news station.

Jade is very close to her father, and Mathis often posts on social media in support of her advocacy work. On Father’s Day in 2024, Jade expressed her gratitude for her father’s unwavering support.

“Happy Father’s Day to the most supportive, selfless father who’s the real definition of a ride or die,” she captioned a video of Mathis on social media. “Couldn’t ask for a better father. Love you pops.”

Camara Mathis Webb, 37

Mathis and Linda welcomed their second daughter, Camara Mathis, in October 1987.

Camara was also influenced by her father’s legal career, following him into the field. She has worked as an entertainment attorney for over a decade, initially at a small firm in Los Angeles and later as the director of business and legal affairs at Warner Bros. Discovery in Burbank, according to her professional profile.

On Aug. 26, 2017, Camara married her husband, Ryan Webb — whom she first met in high school and reconnected with a decade later. The couple has two daughters: Nora, born in August 2016, and Zara, born in July 2021.

Mathis is close to his two granddaughters, frequently sharing photos of them spending time together, from celebrating Black History Month to enjoying ice cream and birthday parties.

As the second oldest of her siblings, Camara has been affectionately called “Momma Mathis” by her sister and brothers, a testament to the nurturing role she has always embraced. The first season of her family’s show, Mathis Family Matters, highlighted her relationships with her siblings and explored her journey through motherhood.

“I’m the only one who’s married and has a family on my own, and I think that is definitely a central part of my story,” Camara noted in June 2022. “[I’m] trying to figure out who I am as a mother, trying to balance motherhood, being a wife, and being a working mom.”

In addition to her legal career, Camara co-founded the event series She Social with her mother, Linda. They hosted events in 2022 centered around themes like sisterhood and intentional joy – one of which was featured on an episode of Mathis Family Matters – with the goal of “bringing together women of all generations to empower, inspire, and find community and sisterhood within each other.”

Camara shares a close bond with Mathis, attending events with him, from the Emmy Awards in 2018 to his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2022.

She expressed her admiration for her dad in a post celebrating his Daytime Emmy win for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program. “So proud to witness another one of your accomplishments. Keep inspiring us all!” Camara captioned a photo of herself, Mathis, Linda, and her brother Amir on the red carpet.

Mathis also proudly acknowledges Camara’s achievements. In a June 2022 social media post promoting their reality show, Mathis described Camara as his “daughter that does it all,” adding that she is a “superwoman [who juggles] her professional demands as a successful lawyer and businesswoman while raising two children.”

Greg Mathis Jr., 36

Mathis and Linda welcomed their third child, son Greg Mathis Jr., on Jan. 31, 1989.

While his sisters followed their father’s passion for law, Greg Jr. pursued a career in entertainment. As an actor, he has appeared in several TV series, including The Obsidium and Mother Doesn’t Know Best, according to his filmography. In 2024, Greg Jr. also performed in the stage play Meet Me in the Prayer Room in L.A.

His first feature film, Fighting To Be Me: The Dwen Curry Story, premiered in February 2025. (His father served as an executive producer on the project.) The actor is currently developing a second movie.

In 2022, Mathis encouraged Greg Jr. to openly discuss his sexuality on an episode of Mathis Family Matters, which documented his coming out process alongside his partner, Elliott Cooper. (Greg Jr. had previously shared this with his family when he was 18.)

Amir Mathis, 34

Mathis and Linda welcomed their fourth child, son Amir Mathis, on July 23, 1990.

Like his older brother Greg Jr., Amir has pursued a career in the entertainment industry, working as a producer. He served as a producer for Mathis Family Matters, as well as for several of his father’s TV shows, including Judge Mathis, According to Mathis, and Mathis Court with Judge Mathis.

The father-son duo are making history as the first to co-host a show together on daytime TV. Stay tuned for more updates from Eternal Pen.

“I want to take a moment to celebrate the groundbreaking HISTORY we’re creating together,” Mathis shared in a social media post of him and Amir on the show’s set in February 2024. “It’s been an incredibly rewarding journey. And as you can see, we have a lot of fun behind the scenes.”

Mathis supports Amir’s career and accomplishments, referring to him as his “partner” and expressing that he has “made me and the family proud” in a social media post celebrating Amir’s birthday in July 2024.

Amir also supports his father. “Can’t explain how proud I am of [my father’s] journey and the generational knowledge he has instilled in me and others,” he wrote in May 2022, celebrating Mathis’ Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony.
