Eva Mendes’ strange request: He may just be Ken, but he still has responsibilities at home.

Following Ryan Gosling’s electrifying “I’m Just Ken” performance at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday, the Barbie star’s longtime partner Eva Mendes posted an Instagram photo of herself in a pink blazer and a black cowboy hat with the caption, “You took Ken all the way to the Oscar’s, RG. Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed. 💋”

Gosling, 43, and Mendes, 50, share two daughters, Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 7.

The actor received a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for playing Ken. The honor ultimately went to Robert Downey Jr. for his part in Oppenheimer, which took home Best Picture.

Eva Mendes’ strange request: Barbie went into the night with a total of eight nominations and left with one Oscar, for Best Original Song.
Earlier on Sunday, Mendes posted a video clip on Instagram from outside of Gosling’s dressing room set to with his Oscar-nominated song “I’m Just Ken.” “Always by my man,” the actress captioned the Reel.

Gosling, wearing a sparkly pink suit and sunglasses, took the stage at Sunday’s 96th annual Academy Awards alongside Mark Ronson and fellow Kens Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans and Ncuti Gatwa to belt the viral Barbie song with maximum Kenergy. At one point, Gosling turned the mic over to Barbie director Greta Gerwig and stars America Ferrera and Margot Robbie to sing a few lines from the front row. Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen helped Gosling close out the energetic performance.

Eva Mendes’ strange request: Just before Gosling took the stage, he received a reassuring hug from his mom. Then immediately after he wrapped, he was escorted out and and Gerwig and Robbie, 33, collapsed in their seats as the director made a “mind-blown” gesture with both hands. Gosling reappeared at the Dolby Theatre’s bar, where he smiled and waved to onlookers.

Eva Mendes’ strange request: “I’m Just Ken” didn’t win Best Original Song, but the honor stayed in the Barbie family when “What Was I Made For?” from the movie’s soundtrack took home the award. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell performed the song during the ceremony — and moved the cast Barbie cast to tears.

Eva Mendes’ strange request: “I didn’t think this would happen, I wasn’t expecting this,” Eilish, 22, said while accepting the award. “I feel so incredibly lucky and honored.”

The win gave Eilish her second Oscar, making her the youngest two-time Academy Award winner ever. Her first win came in the same category in 2022 for her James Bond anthem “No Time to Die.”

Along with beating out “I’m Just Ken,” “What Was I Made For?” won over fellow nominees “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot, “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony, and “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon.
